Spielberg for Jaws is probably the greatest frick up the Academy has ever done (Next to Shakespeare in Love beating Saving Private Ryan) And lets face it Scorcese got fricked all the way until he won for The Departed. Hell look at the movies that beat his classics, Ordinary People over Raging Bull? Dances with Wolves over Goodfellas?

IMO,
Shakespeare in Love > Saving Private Ryan
Dances With Wolves > Goodfellas

Private Ryan and Goodfellas are two of those movies that people rave about that I thought were just ok.

Yes, I know this is not a popular opinion and I'll get plenty of GTFO and DIAF comments, but what the hell.

I happened to like Shakespeare in Love quite a bit, but Dances with Wolves was a massive borefest. I also happen to think Goodfellas to be a boring movie. People will probably laugh at me but, of the five Best Picture nominees from that year, I probably would have chosen Ghost as the winner. In my opinion, Ghost was the best and most entertaining movie from that year.

Robert Redford over Martin Scorsese for Raging Bull in 1980 was the worst snub in Oscar history and it's not even close. Well, maybe awarding Kevin Costner for Dancing with Wolves over Scorsese's Goodfellas isn't that far off. No director has been more fricked over by the Academy than Scorsese.

Mean Streets and The King of Comedy are two Scorcese films that are fantastic but are overshadowed by his ridiculous body of work.
