Greatest show ever made in the history of all shows ever made. No other show will ever match it. TV and movies should just stop being made. It will never be topped.

How much better is it than Farscape? I just started the 4th season of Farscape and it's been pretty good.

So I should give it until "33" to make any judgements.

Alrighty. I'll tell yall what I think in 3.5 hours

I'd go about 7 episodes in before you really make a final judgement, honestly (make it to Flesh and Bone at least, that's where the show starts revealing the mythology of its entire narrative).

33 is just one of the best hours on television ever created, so there's that. Season 1 does take a bit to wind up though, so I wouldn't duck out right away.

It starts off strong but fades in the later seasons. Didn't really care for all the mysticism/prophecy crap. It also has its share of uninteresting/filler episodes.

Season 3 is the best Season. If any Season lags, it's 2. And Season 4 is quite good as well.

But that probably explains it.

I would go the other direction. I feel that BSG has one of the better necessary:unnecessary rates for episodes of any show not named Breaking Bad or the Wire.

I think there are maybe 4 completely filler episodes. (And I think it depends on how you look at most episodes, but that's a discussion for a spoiler filled thread).

I thought some of the filler episodes were also some of the most entertaining. When I need to get a BSG fix I pop in one of those just for funsies.

Agree with all this. The trial episodes were pretty bad, too. The miniseries and first two seasons were pretty fantastic, though, and the last two seasons still did more than enough to keep me watching.

IMO the only episode that was truly bad was the one in season 2 called Black Market.

If I didn't like the main antagonist of that episode and it didn't involve Commander Fisk I would say you may as well skip it completely.

If the shite going on with Lee had actually been set up earlier in the series it may have been a good episode but with his main plot points coming completely out of nowhere it just didn't come together at all.

Fun or they were went to flesh out the world, which BSG does better than most shows. Even though the characters are strong, I'd argue the world is even more alive than most shows. So a lot of what people call "Filler," episodes are there to give viewers a better idea of what is going on around all of this. The seedy underbelly (probably the worst episode), the working class, the prisoners, etc. They don't necessarily contribute to the overall arc, but they give a broader view of WHERE these people are and HOW that's affecting them. That makes the characters stand out even more.

When most shows try episodes they may try this, but without a backing mythology they become filler episodes that don't do ANYTHING for the progress of the show. On the other hand, I'd say BSG's fillers are still necessary to appreciate what the characters are going through.
