I don't remember proclaiming it as the next Casablanca or Citizen Kane.

Its a good movie and its been a shitty year as someone already pointed out. Not to mention people saying that are huge fans of the comic and are just glad it hasn't been f'ed up like the last versions of the series. Just because some fanboys like it -- doesn't mean its bound to win 12 academy awards.

I get the point, but I would much rather watch TDK over either of those movies.

There were a couple of things I didn't like as well. Scarecrow having his mask on, for the drug deal after only putting it on to scare people in the first one, was corny IMO. I didn't like Batman wanting Harvey to be the hero at his own expense, even though Harvey was supposedly dead either. Overall though, incredible movie.

I didn't want to go opening night, because of the Bat-dorks that were sure to be there. I can't stand when the whole crowd is cheering and clapping at a movie. Just a pet peeve I guess.

Batman Begins brought in $48,745,440 it's opening weekend.
What appeal brought in so many extra viewers this time around?

Maybe a lot of people on opening weekend thought it to be like the "other Batmans."

If/when the next one does about as well at the box office, are you going to blame that on Ledger's death bringing attention to the franchise?

Winning any....will be quite the accomplishment considering the genre. I think there will be a few from this movie. Ledger is a lock to at least get nominated.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it win a couple...nothing like Best Picture, but smaller catagories like cinemtography.

I'll actually be very surprised if the next one makes more money than this one precisely because Ledger won't be in it.

Just a theory, but I think most moviegoers will see it just like most saw TDK and Begins. But the box office totals of TDK aren't being built on the number of people seeing it, its being built on the fanboys seeing 2, 3, or 4 times.

I actually think the same people who are so enamored with Ledger's performance will be overly critical of the next one because no villian will be able to live up to their obsession surrounding this performance. They won't keep rushing back to the theater to drool all over themselves about the darkness and significance of it, so the box office numbers won't be able to match TDK without the same hysteria surrounding it.

Just a prediction, so feel free to laugh in my face in four years when the next one drops a billion.

I agree with you actually. No matter who is in the next one, he will be considered a let down from The Joker and the performance given, even if it is somehow better. They better bring a strong actor to play the Riddler or whoever it is. I can guarantee it will be a great movie though, as long as Nolan does it.

I never said or suggested that the next one is going to make more cash as fast simply because I believe TDK is pretty much the absolute peak of what can realistically be brought in.

I was just retorting to the one who attempted to compare the numbers with Begins, as if Ledger's death was the major difference between the two.

Pretty hard to change one's mind when this is their mindset before going in IMO

I thought the same thing about the way Ledgers role was being played up before the movie...

but afterwards determined I was wrong. So, obviously my inital judgements aren't set in stone.

naw

you can improve the direction/camera angles of the fights

you can take away the un-climactic final battle

you can add more actual interaction between batman and his 2 foils, which TDK sorely lacked

take away the multiple twists. 1 or 2 was enough

I didn't mean the absolute peak of cinema, I meant the absolute peak of how fast a movie can realistically bring in dough no matter how good it is.

I hear ya V. I wasn't arguing with you. Reading your comment just made me think about box office for the next one, so I just replied to yours, but it was actually an attempt to start a different convo based on that comment. Not trying to say that you thought the next one would make more money.

ETA: Of course by the time the next one comes out fuggin movies will probly cost 20 bucks so it'll beat TDK anyway.

The whole point of that was to show "no matter what you do The Joker is always 2 steps ahead of you". It was part of the plot and it worked IMO.

One thing that bugged me was where Batman was on his bike attempting to hit the Joker. Right before this attempt, Batman proved his bike could go verticle up a wall and land peacefully. He also showed that his tires could roll top over bottom(sideways)....

yet, after he determines he can't kill the Joker, rides by him and can't think of anything to do other than run into the parked car and fall over.
