Yeah, I saw the first one and felt the same way after it as I did with Dark Knight. Good, but not great. The only reason I went to see Dark Knight was because of how hyped of Ledgers role was. I must say, he delivered and there was no let down there.

I think more than anything, Bales monotone acting throws me off.

I actually don't think that many people saw TDK just because of Ledger. H Town is right, Begins was great, so most people were looking forward to the sequel. I know I was.

I'm saying that the circumstances surrounding Ledger's death are changing the way people are rating the movie because his performance, viewed posthomously, seems to have given it some deeper meaning for some people than it probably would have if he was still alive.

People react very strongly anytime a negative thing is about the movie, and I doubt that they would have the same reaction otherwise.

im confused at your point.

you didnt like the first one. you went in thinking this one was going to be overrated...and big surprise, you thought it was. coincidence?

then you justify you not thinking the movie was awesome by saying people are only seeing it because of Ledgers death.

it seems like you have something against the movie because other people like it so much and you didnt.

Nah, I was just asking if I was the only person who found it a tad overrated.

Again, didn't dislike either movie. Then again, didn't think either was overly great either.

And, Like somebody mentioned before, Batman Begins took in over 200 million dollars. Ledger wasn't in that movie...
so obviously that isn't the only reason.

To be honest, this thread wasn't created to bash the movie (though, not everything said about the movie has been positive). I just wanted to see if everyone really thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread or if there were others, like me, who thought it was good (more so Ledgers performance than the movie as a whole) but not everything it's being made out to be.

fair enough

surpisingly movies that are huge rely on the teenage girl factor...they are sheep. you get them excited to see "the cool thing" its guaranteed $$$

i really dont get why this is hard to understand.

there was more hype and excitement surround this movie than the first one, period. it was like that before ledger died. the next one is probably not going to be nearly as good as this one, but it will probably still make more than begins because the success of tdk will carry it.

of the 3 pirates movies, the first one made the least. the second movie made over 120 million more than the first one. nobody died between the first and second pirates, so how is this possible?

Am I the only one who thought the movie was just okay?

Personally, I knew going in I would probably think it was overrated (as I wasn't a huge fan of the first one). Coming out of the movie, I was correct on my initial judgment.

I also thought that Ledgers performance was probably being over-hyped due to his passing. This is were I was wrong. Ledger played the role very well. He should definitely be in contention for an oscar for his part.
Without Ledger, I don't think I really would have enjoyed this movie much at all.

So, did you find this movie to be all it was hyped up to be?

my exact thoughts

I thought it was a tad long. I kept finding myself getting really drawn into certain parts of the movie...

then completely losing interest and wondering "how much longer is this?"... only to eventually be drawn back in.

There were some moments that had me on the edge of my seat but most of the time I had no idea what was going on. I was actually getting sleey watching the movie. To be honest, The Watchmen trailer was more entertaining than TDK

I guess we're just different. I have seen it twice and didn't feel that way either time.

Which parts would you cut out?

Pretty hard to change one's mind when this is their mindset before going in IMO.

why do people think its bales choice to do that voice? bale's a great actor and youre a clown if you dismiss his skills because of the "batman voice"

could have done without Bale's deep, monotone voice throughout the entire movie.

I was under the impression he made his voice like that when he was suited up to help conceal his identity

I thought it was good--maybe even very good--but by no means great. In the weakest year for movies ever, this movie would not sniff Best Picture. I think Heath Ledger should definitely get a supporting actor nod. Too early to tell if he should win.

And anybody who thinks his dying hasn't added to the hype/appeal/intrigue of this movie is just silly. We'll never know how much of an effect it had, but to disregard it completely is ridiculous.

"That fricking rocked" I believe were the first words out of my mouth as I walked out of the Movie theatre. I just don't think you can do a comic book movie any better then that. Iron Man was not as good IMO.
