I never said I don't think it's a funny movie.
That doesn't change that I accurately described the plot of the movie.
It wasn't even that big of a success so I'm not sure why people are defensive over a movie they probably only originally saw on cable b/c it was cheap for cable channels to run on a never ending loop.

Yeah, that's gonna suck.
Anna Faris playing the straight person?
This makes no sense. She would actually be perfect as the ditzy amnesia person - that's her thing.
She is only funny when she plays super-dumb crazy people that are confused all the time and clueless...ala Just Friends and Scary Movie.

I got it.
Anna Faris plays the part of Goldie Hawn.
Melissa McCarthy plays the part of Kurt Russell.
Then it's not so kidnappy and disturbing for today's audiences.
And they can play up McCarthy being bad with tools despite being a carpenter. "Oh jeez! My finger!"
They can probably get Paul Feig to direct.

I don't understand why anyone would try to remake this. Bound to fail.

Your description is fitting for today. You must've taken the day off. (Just kidding)
It doesn't do justice to simplistically cute movie. It's not that Overboard was a laugh fest, it was just a cute simple movie starring "jack Burton" and one of the best comedic actresses of the last 20-30 years. I didn't take it as the mysogenistic film you describe.
Sometimes you need to close that well trained, highly refined, critical eye and just enjoy a movie for what it is. Not the deeper meaning or social statement. Just entertainment. An escape from all the bullshite of one's daily professional or personal life.
Deep meaningful movies have their place. But so do nonsensical, light movies. Overboard was just that.

I didn't say it was misogynistic. Being tricked into being a free nanny has nothing to do with that nor does falling for a person in a way could easily be described as Stockholm syndrome.
