I know it was announced in February, but on the heels of the Flair 30 for 30, I thought the Andre doc would be a great counter. Bill Simmons and HBO are making it, a work he has been trying to get made forever.

Don't know when it will get released, but I know Robin Wright said about a month ago that she had filmed for it.

Andre was the anti-Nature Boy, a sweet, gentle human being who just happened to be the largest human alive and only wanted to be secluded on his ranch and be with his close friends who didn't look at him like a freak. Flair is loved by many, but he was essentially a piece of garbage, plus, perhaps no wrestler ever will hold such high regards in so many people's lives because of The Princess Bride.

HBO essentially invented the modern sports doc as we know it, I can't wait for this.

I’m looking forward to this. André was also the greatest drinker who ever lived: LINK

Andre's drinking is legendary. It will put Flair's 15 drinks a day to shame

I was about to say... he was the anti-Flair in every way except for their mutual love of the sauce.

Some wrestlers hated Andre, iron sheik and bad news brown are a couple. He's been accused of being a racist

He either loved or hated you

He's a fascinating guy, I'll be watching

True
Sheik hates everyone but it's a gimmick
He also called Andre a French ****

Bad news has a more legit reason considering Andre was supposedly used the n word in front of him and kamala

He's the greatest drinker in the world

There is an A&E Biography show about Andre from the late 90s. They did several wrestling documentaries back then.

I did that on purpose, I don't have to miss.

I recently saw Princess Bride in the theaters again...damn, Andre is so good in that movie - you never once feel like you're watching a wrestler trying to act.

When I was a kid...Wrestlemania III was bigger than the Super Bowl. Everybody was talking about it at school.

Andre vs. Hulk (who would win?)

What wasn't fake was how in the hell Hogan lifted Andre?

He weighed 550 pounds.

Is this the first thing Simmons has done since his failed talk show? I wonder what other subjects they have planned?

I know he was working for years to get the 30 for 30 on AtG going.

Simmons was essentially the sparkplug 30 for 30..its his vision. Supposedly he always admired HBO Sports Docs (deservedly so) and he was the producer on all those early espn documentaries.

He's been laying really low on the HBO sidez I think he still writes and does his podcast but that's all for his own website, which I think HBO owns a piece of.

The TV show was a disaster, but I remember him talking about the Andre the Giant doc years and years ago. Espn just never thought there was a market for it, that's another reason the two parties' relationship soured.

I did not like the production on the Flair doc, the cartoon stuff was very cheap feeling and I don't think the quality of the project was near what some of the other 30 for 30's have been.

HBO has so much more gravitas in their sports documentaries, plus they have an exclusive deal with Liev Schreiber to narrate, the best in the business.
