That’s small potatoes
He’s a chairman on the board of the nation wide Innocence project, which has over 350 overturned convictions.

Makes you wonder what kinda shady shite is happening in Ada Ok...
Finished it. Very good.
Not trying to hijack the thread, but side note:
Kathy "Dusty Brown" was from Ada, Oklahoma as well. She was convicted of 2nd degree murder for arranging for her boyfriend to kill Chris Brown, her husband and Alabama Marine, for insurance money. She also kidnapped their child from the paternal grandparents, who had been awarded custody. There was a movie about the entire ordeal called "A Matter of Justice", on either Hallmark or Lifetime some years ago. Not a bad movie - had Patty Duke, Martin Sheen, Charles S. Dutton in it.
What the hell is wrong with people in Ada?

Didn’t they mention in the Doc that Ada had the like 2nd or 3rd highest incarceration rate in the US?

Thought that was Oklahoma.

Ahh makes sense.
Still a crazy stat since there really isn’t much in Oklahoma

it was weird as frick to give the mother the murder weapon as like a keepsake. Apparently she took solace in it but it was super weird. Grief is weird but they didn’t make it seem like she specifically requested it
1) It wasn't just a murder weapon- it was a belt the mother had given her for her birthday that she said her daughter loved. Also, I think the murder weapon was probably more the electric blanket cord.
2) She did ask for it. She even said that now that she had it she would have some peace.
I don't think it's weird at all.

the blonde writer in the end really added nothing to the show.
Looked like they needed to pad the last few episodes. By the looks of her bio, criminal investigative journalism isn’t exactly her forte.

I laughed when they said she was a freelance journalist. I was like that’s a funny way to say unemployed

I finished it the other day too, and while I don't think they are guilty of it, how dumb do you have to be to make up a confession story and tell it to the police while being video taped? One of the dumbest things I've ever seen.

How did the point of the show go that far over your head
False confessions and forced confessions happen all the time.

I think that one of the scariest moments was the revelation that the Ada PD's evidence chain of custody included a rented storage unit right out of Storage Wars.

It didn't go over my head. I just think you're an idiot if you would say all that to the police even if they are feeding you the bullshite made up story. Always make sure you have a lawyer present. Thats day 1 stuff.

Three out of the four defendants were idiots. Half of them had actual mental disabilities. One of them had already been found incapable to stand trial for a lesser charge due to mental defect.
I’d hope that you are more intelligent than those poor guys. The point is that the police pinned the crimes on troubled men who didn’t have the capability to defend themselves under the pressures brought by the police.
The one exception was Dennis Fritz, who seemed to have some sense, but had lost his wife to murder. He was the only one with the mental capability to reach out for help with any success.

Yes it did. You are trying to put yourself in the shoes of men with individual IQs of 70 and below. I mean you are sitting there calling these dudes idiots in jest when they are actually dumb. Of course this will never happen to you; but the series isnt about people like you, it’s about people less fortunate.

Yeah, maybe I'm wrong about this. The guys in the documentary just didn't appear to be mentally deficient in the interviews. But I do remember them mentioning that one of them couldn't stand trial for something.

Go watch the confession tapes on Netflix. That will answer all your misunderstandings on how false confessions are created
Posted on 12/25/18 at 10:43 pm to Crow Pie
It all starts from a misunderstanding of the police process - cops are not looking for the right result, they’re looking for a result
