No matter how factual the content, we’ll see posters whining about how the white man is portrayed. You know, like killing Indians and occupying their lands. Reality.

Just started. 2 episodes in. Not much of a history buff. Had no idea there was a “Mormon Militia”.

Sara Rowell character may replace Jennie from Forest Gump as worst villian of all time.

After moving to Utah I’ve been watching every documentary available.

The fundamentalists are evil.

Lots of brutality on all sides.

Indians
White men
Mormons
Military

Kim Coates was great as Brigham Young.

A lot of shite could be avoided if women and kids would just listen.

Slight spoilers...

Bit of a Romeo and Juliette ending for some.

One guy actually makes out fairly well.

yeeeeah.... not really. joseph smith was a conman and he was killed.

Nauvoo grew rapidly and was one of the most populous cities in Illinois for a few years. Within two years of Joseph Smith's being killed by a mob in 1844, most of the Mormon population had departed, fleeing armed violence.

A lot of power was concentrated in Joseph Smith, some felt he had too much power as the Prophet, but also the Commander of the Nauvoo Militia. He also had considerable sway with the everyday dealings of the residents of the city.

Eventually, some men killed both Joseph and his brother Hiram. Brigham Young, felt it necessary to leave Nauvoo and to actually move to land that was not yet part of the United States. The aim was to create their own nation of Deseret. Again, they became too powerful.

the united states government had enough and was sending more military to dismantle them in 1861...

but then the civil war started and resources were pulled back east.

So essentially the civil war happening is the reason why the mormons are where they are today. otherwise, they would have been destroyed.

Disappointing that we didn't get to see Sara naked. She is packing some guns under that blouse.

Been wanting to watch this and finally got around to it. Love Peter Berg's stuff usually, and he didn't disappoint. Was really well done. Berg was actually one of the first people killed in the massacre. Definitely had some plot holes or at least eye roll parts, esp with the first Karen in American history doing her best to get everyone killed. Definitely tried to make women the leaders and/or decision makers which wasn't much of a reality back then, but oh well.
Bridger and BY actors were great. Taylor was great as usual as well. I knew of the Mountain Meadows Massacre, as a friend had a relative there apparently from the Mormon side, but didn't know Bridger was an actual person. Someone mentioned he was a POS in real life, part of the Donner Party story. Would actually love to see Berg do that story with Bridger.
And you could tell Gilpin must have been wrapped in 10 bounds of tape to keep those beauties minimized.

I liked it well enough. There were a few head shaking moments and I'm getting kind of tired of the bleak cinematography trend. Seems a bit overdone here.

I do have to ask how seemingly everyone knows this woman is wanted for murder in Philadelphia. Group of hunters out in the middle of nowhere knowing who she is? Come on.

And, as usual, the railroad is cartoonish. St. Joseph had a population of several thousand at the time portrayed and it is represented as a few buildings with a single track dead ending right at the train station. The "bumper post" 20 feet from the platform with a few guys trying to drive spikes, like they are building west or something, is laugh inducing.
