You can’t have white people and black people playing the same group (Two Rivers) of people. What a joke.

It is.
There are several overt references to our current Age.

I recall thinking they had cast a lot of unknowns when Game of Thrones was announced, but happy that the actors looked the part. Hopefully this has the same luck.

Because it is as nonsensical as a movie with a short guy with slanted eyes and yellow skin that is supposed to be a native Briton fighting off the Roman Legions along with his cousin who has black skin and stands at 6’4.

Sure they may both be able to act, but the frivolity of the situation detracts from the story.

I promise you. I’ve read them far more than any of you I would wager. I’ve been reading them for 25 years. I posted on WOTmania and dragonmoujt back in the day. I met RJ twice.

WOT is where my ubernerdness comes out.

Does it change the fundamental dynamic of either character? Yes or no.

How is it remotely similar?

The literal only thing it changes is making the Two Rivers not overly homogeneous.

Does that fundamentally alter the course of the story?

Let me ask if this way, does Perrin and Nynaeve being a difference ethnicity than what is in the source material change the CHARACTERS or STORY in any way?

I’m not talking about world building. I understand that. But I also understand due to budget and TV constraints that the world is going to be lessened quite a bit.

RJ spent half of the books describing each countries peoples and how they differed. From skin color, height, speech, mannerisms etc. What's the point of half of your writing if everyone is diverse and there is no homogeneous people? There's not, that's why he spent half the series writing about how its not....

HE SPENT HALF OF THE SERIES DESCRIBING THIS VERY THING.

Then it would have made more sense to make the Two Rivers folks all black.

But they didn’t because that would have been a bad money decision.

It was purely a BS sjw decision.

Jesus people, they cast two black folks. It’ll be okay.

Looks like they got Rand and Mat down solid, long as they throw some smokeshows in there as well I got no complaints about the casting.

If Superman was a 86 year old black woman with one leg does it change the story to you? Does to me. I dont care how good she can act, she's not Superman and that kills the story. When shoehorn people in a role that is clearly supposed to be a certain way it takes away from the original story. Sure people who didn't read the books may not care but I read the books. I know who Perrin is and he isn't a black guy. He's not even from a place that has ever seen black people.

Clearly casting a black dude to play Perrin is completely equivalent to casting a 95 year old amputee as Superman. Stop being a cuck.

I understand the whole hating diversity for the sake of diversity/Hollywood SJW mindset. I hate it too.

But this is a fantasy world. The ethnicity of these particular characters isn’t really relevant.

Making Roland Deschain a black dude was dumb.

A black Superman would be retarded.

This just doesn’t seem worthy of outrage. Nynaeve sucked chode anyway so they could cast Carrot Top to play her and I wouldn’t give a damn. I don’t know, I got a finite amount of energy for this world and this just doesn’t seem worthy of it.

It's not just Fantasy its everything. If you want to not stay true to the story that readers have invested years into for the sake of social politics that's fine. I dont have to like it. I dont have to agree with it. I do believe this is a forerunner for how the show will be toned and I do believe it will suffer because of it. Because that's not the original story that made it successful. If they are taking liberties with the casting they will take even more liberties with the story. I am disappointed because I love this story, I love these characters and this is the one chance for it to come to life on the screen and they clearly could care less about staying true to what made it great to begin with. If the did care they would have cast people that RJ wrote the story around.
