Am I a POS if I laugh throughout the entire movie of What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

haven't seen it in a while, but someone on FB showed all the Leo highlights, and I chuckled through a lot of it.
side note, the theme of the video was that the reason Leo didn't win an Oscar for the role was because people actually thought he was autistic/retarded. is that true?

It was a pretty impressive performance at that age as a young actor
Probably gave him more cred in Hollywood with directors than Titanic did

I think there is little question - as an acting display, he and Winslet were underwhelming (particularly compared to every supporting actor in that film) in Titanic. Much better in Gilbert Grape and, I would have to say in hindsight, even Romeo + Juliet, although I didn't care for the film.
I didn't think much of him as an actor until The Aviator. I have to give him props for most of the roles since.

when it came out i thought the answer to the movie was going to be his mother. Didnt know if it was going to be a comedy or a horror flick.

His agent did an unbelievable job of choosing his films and he's stayed away from the superhero genre, Marvel and DC which has been a smart career move although it probably cost him a lot of money
Basketball Diaries was another one
Even after Titanic he does a movie like The Beach

You think his agent chooses which films he’s going to be in?

What he isn’t Vinny Chase

Don’t count him out. He idolized Nicholson so much I doubt he would have an issue taking that kind of role if it were interesting

Seeing it not long after it came out I spent like 75% of the movie not sure if it was the kid from Growing Pains or a retarded kid that looked like him.

I saw it on VHS three or so years after it came out (before Titanic though). I thought he was autistic and was blown away when I found he wasn't.

Johnny Depp had such a miserable time making that movie that he refuses to watch it. Laugh away.

I haven't seen it since it came out and I had it on videotape, but I must say you are not the only one who laughed throughout
20 something years later, my sister and I will still quote something like, "dad's dead! dad's dead!" in the Arnie voice for whatever reason we would do such a thing (our father is alive)

I only saw Basketball Diaries in the last year and I actually thought it was easily Leo's best performance in his career. He obviously likes to party and have fun but I've never heard of him having any problems with drugs or alcohol, but he absolutely nailed that role. Not just a junkie, but a tragically young junkie. The scene of him begging his mom for money to get heroin while going through withdrawals was exactly what you see on shows like Intervention. The kid with a future casually taking pills to full on hopeless junkie was an amazing piece of acting that you wouldn't think someone without that experience could pull off

Eh, he wasn't that young. He was 18 in 93. He just looked like he was 13.
Leo was weird, He looked and sounded perpetually like a teenager for about 10 yrs.

I did. I even thought he had been cured of donkey brains when he went on to become hot shite. I thought this for a long time.

Leo is an insanely good actor. I'll see any movie he is in without hesitation. Same with Will Smith.
