I assumed that the ship shown in the trailer was the one that Shaw and David took to the engineer home world. Not sure though, just what I figured..

Up until Prometheus released in 2012, the origin of the alien creatures was never explored. Alien 1-4 mostly centered around Sigourney Weaver's character Ripley encountering them and attempting to stop the Weyland Yutani Corporation/United Systems Military from bringing specimens back to earth for study. Prometheus goes into the origin of the species and Alien: Covenant continues to dig deeper into it.
Like the previous poster said: Watch Alien and Aliens. They are really good movies. If you can find the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 (on the blu ray anthology collection) its decent. Alien Resurrection is not very good. Prometheus is half good and half bad but if you plan to see Alien Covenant then definitely watch it.

At this point in time I don't think mankind has dealt with an alien egg yet. This movie still takes place before Alien.

maybe they will explain it but how do they know that this planet is perfect to sustain life? I mean they are not sending someone to check and see if it is ok they are sending people to colonize it.

My guess is you won't. I doubt you will learn all that much more about it. I think prometheus dropped the ball there. They had a really good opportunity to have a story there.

That was my main interest during and after Prometheus. I wanna know what happen to the engineer race and want to see their home world.
