Alex Garland should have directed/written The Last Jedi

Here’s his filmography: LINK
But Garland would have known to keep it focused on Rey and Kylo. Have them both learn from their teachers, and afterwards have the psychic bond that was present in the film. Eventually have them both plot against both of their teachers together, but Rey refuses to go as far as Kylo does. And then have a final lightsaber fight between them on the final planet with Kylo taking Rey’s lightsaber for himself.
It’s obvious what to do, but instead Johnson decides to lecture me on animal rights and the patriarchy like an SJW a-hole. But if Garland was directing and knew to keep 80% of it focused on Kylo and Rey, it would have been one of the best sequels of all time. Instead all Rian Johnson did is add the J in the middle of SW. This movie is shite and could have been a masterpiece.

The guy who directed Ex Machina doesn't have a lot in common with even the best of the Star Wars movies. Star Wars at its best was a space fairy tale with a dose of romance and outgrowing of your childish flaws. Ex Machina was a more complex and mature examination of sentience and morality.
Garland would be bored doing a fairy tale remake and his major interests don't fit for a movie franchise with a 35 year history of aiming more at selling merchandise than telling a novel story.
