Believe it or not, that Greatest American Hero remake has been abandoned by ABC
quote:
Despite the power of New Girl star Hannah Simone (and also, yes, a super-powered alien suit with a missing instruction manual), it turns out that ABC’s Greatest American Hero reboot will be denied the chance to go walkin’ on air. Simone announced that the show won’t be going forward yesterday morning, expressing her disappointment that the network has passed on the chance to feature “the first brown female superhero on TV.”

Yes...I'm sure that's why...
ETA: In addition, this is why social media is going to be the death of us all. Instead of not having a world-wide platform do burn one's bridges, people now have Twitter to burn them on. I'm sure ABC/Disney os going to be RUNNING to offer her work after essentially calling them racists...

Why is that such a big deal, especially with her.
She is half Indian and half various flavors of Europe. How brown is she really?

Yep, I'm sure that is exactly why the show wasn't picked up.
I once read a stat that 90% of tv shows fail. But I'm sure it isn't that but just the fact we "aren't ready" for a brown female superhero.

In all fairness the original series should have never made it to television anyway.

I do not use the word "brave" often, but I applaud you for standing up for yourself.
(Seriously, I was never a fan of the original series. I never got why people loved it, other than the catchy theme song.)

Pssh, Feige apparently wrestled Kamala (current Ms. Marvel) away from Ike since Inhumans got cancelled.
Disney making a brown girl superheroine movie now.
Possibly with also with a black girl and her T-Rex.
Just give us Chadwick Boseman riding a T-Rex, Marvel.

The original show was a fun and unique concept. I enjoyed the casting and some of the plots, and the fact that they were actually pretty smart about some things.
I remember later in the series, our guy gets elected to the House of Representatives from the DC area (I think he was a liberal teacher or social worker); some foriegn terrorist kidnaps him and tries to leverage him-
"you must be important, since you're from Washington DC". His reaction was- "wait, you think being elected from the DC area means I have connections? Hahahahaha!!! I'm representing a poor ghetto area, most of the other congressmen don't even know my first name, you moron"
I also remember an episode where he goes "undercover" on a baseball team as a pitcher for some reason, and refused to use the suit- "Nope, don't need it. I got a changeup"... and of course got rocked
The problems with remaking the show would be multiple- you likely wouldn't have a lot of the more self-aware humor, especially with a woman. They'd depict her as "super", because fems would rant if she was bumbling. And that would defeat the overall theme, which was "jeez, I have no fricking clue what I'm doing here".
Also, the entertainment market (movies and TV) is saturated with name-brand superheroes right now. The Greatest American Hero, Hancock, G Girl etc- they're generic knockoffs. We don't have room for them.

The series wasn’t very good, but it was probably dated by the time I watched it. I like the concept. It would probably do okay for a sc-fy type channel.
