Poorly written. Ex:

Page 336 describes a sex scene for Asha
"By the time she had him hard again, he was awake and she was wet. Asha draped the furs across her bare shoulders and mounted him, drawing him so deep inside her that she could not tell who had the co*k and who the cu*t."

Fastforward to a Dany sex scene on page 573
"then rode him so wildly that his wound began to bleed again, and for one sweet heartbeat she could not tell whether he was inside of her, or her inside of him."

That is a poor job of writing and insulting to the reader's intelligence, not to mention a stupid description of sex.

There are numerous gramatical mistakes in the book too.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the books are becoming more pornographic. There was no need to relay the details of Ramsay's wedding night and Theon's role as a fluffer on a young girl. We get it, Ramsay is a bad/evil guy, and we did not need that scene to know how bad Ramsay is.

Martin reportedly was having some problems of a sexual nature a few years back. That could be the reason for the books becoming more and more pornographic.

I haven't heard anything about that. Know any details or have a link?

The Ramsey, Jeyne, Reek scene was way over the top, IMO.

I just remember it making the rounds on some of the message boards a few years ago, and someone brought it up a few weeks ago when the book came out.

I doubt it was well publicized but as we can see with the SEC Rant, fans can ferret out the craziest stuff.

Edit 1

Okay I looked and it was basically a urinary tract infection from hell. It turned into sepsis and he was hospitalized. That could definitely effect his attitude to sex. I mean if my tallywhacker turned black and septic....um...yeah. No.

God I'm bored. Urosepsis is most likely to occur in adult males with diabetes. Diabetics are much more likely to suffer from ED when they hit the 50-60 year mark than normal males.

Edit 2

GRRM can't get it up. GRRM writes overly graphic sex scenes in his novels. Just another example of an author engaging in wish fulfillment though their writing.

Mystery solved.

Thanks for the research and good info. Glad it's not football season yet, or I imagine you wouldn't have been bored enough to go to the trouble.

The only place this thinking kind of comes apart is that he was working with Ilyrio to set up Dany's return (or Viserys before he died), but Aegon was the true heir. That doesn't make much sense to me if he knew and was involved in Aegon's hiding/education(and how could he not be?). Why would he set up a secret pact to marry Viserys to Arianne Martell if he knew Aegon was out there to one day come back as king?

Don't put all you dragon's eggs in one basket. Gotta have a backup plan. Doubt Varys cares which Targ claims the throne as long as it is a Targ.

Yeah, it does get a bit confused there, but she was found by a dothraki scout at the very end. Who knows what will happen next...

Probably addressed by someone else, I'm just responding as I read through the thread, but wasn't the khal who found her once one of Drogo's bloodriders?

Manderly went from being a weak Stark bannerman (in my eyes) to one of the biggest BAMFs in Westeros. Frey Pie indeed.

I suspected he had put the missing Frey's into the pie as I read it, but is there any confirmation of this?

Jon is definitely going to be reborn as AA. The bleeding star, salt and smoke prophecy.

"When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone.”

Only problem is that Dany is the one who woke dragons out of stone (unless more dragons are coming (crosses fingers)).

It is a problem, what dragons woke from Jon's storyline? Since TMTE(The Mountain That Eats)left us with Jon's clumsy cliffhanger, we don't know. I guess Jon could wake some dragons in some form or fashion (maybe the dragon he will wake is the one inside him?). Every indication up to now has been that Dany is AA, IMO. I don't know if TMTE is trying a misdirection, or trying to make AA multiple people or something else entirely.

I guess it could be argued that Dany didn't wake any dragons but birthed or hatched them, which seems a silly argument.

Did anyone notice the name of the ship Selaesori Quoran? Tyrion called it the Stinky Steward but wouldn't Perfumed Seneschal fit just as well? I'm not sure who was aboard that Dany should beware of though. Tyrion is hoping to ally with her, Ser Jorah loves her, Penny seems harmless enough. That leaves Moqorro, but the Red Priests are obsessed with the AA prophecy, so that would presumably place Moqorro in Dany's camp. Maybe that name is just misdirection. There's also a corpse pickled in brine, could that be a wight sent to kill her?

The mention of Aerys and Joanna didn't really move me one way or another on the matter of Tyrion's parentage. I'm still waiting for Dany, Ser Barristan, and Tyrion to all come face to face. That entire passage, (along with Grif and Aegon), just made me suspect that Martin really has been reading the fan sites and is letting them affect the direction of the story. (I also got a gay vibe from Grif, seemed to have had a bit of a mancrush on Rhaegar.)

All in all, I was disapointed. The story really didn't move forward in the least. I've got very little hope that he can wrap it up in two more books.

The scene where Dany finally rode Drogon was pretty cool, and Val of the Free Folk could become another of my favorites, (probably means Martin kills her in the next book).

It is rather irritating to be given so many cliffhangers and wonder if it will be another 5 years for the next one.

At least Crows had some feeling of closure to it...yeah there were some hangers, and things were open, but still.

As to the awaking the Dragons of Stone. How about the Dragon Skulls in the Red Keep. We already know we can resurrect people why not Dragons from just the Skull. It would be much greater magic sure but magic seems to be getting stronger every day. Why would GRRM make such a big about them unless they were important. It would also be awesome as hell to have all the great Targ dragons reappear.

Yeah, the ASOIAF website had a pre-book guessing game or something about what kinds of deaths would show up in the book. Baked into a pie was one of the ones mentioned by one of Martin's editors I believe. Manderly was a definite highlight of a rather disappointing book due to all the lame cliffhangers and lack of any plot movement.

I wouldn't say that the plot line didn't move, just that it basically ran in a circle.

I don't get the hate for this book it was the second half of feast for crows which was a book that was trying to get all the chess pieces in place before the major moves come in. What exactly were you expecting? Every story has lulls in the action and this is where we are now. Its still one of the better books I've read in quite some time not counting the other asoiaf books I just don't get the bitching
