what if CP3 for Deron was part of the deal?
Posted on 4/23/09 at 10:24 am to gizmoflak
Utah's GM should be fired if he made that trade.

yeh, probably.
Millsap has some serious upside, the only issue I would see with this trade is there would be a slight offensive downgrade IMO
but defensively huge upgrade

How about this?
Millsap's contract expires at the end of the season. IMO, there may be a chance that he leaves Utah for a starting spot closer to home.
Buy out Peja for $15-18 million, save us about 5-7 million in cap next year.
D-West moves to 3...he gives us good offense.
Millsap at the 4 gives us a nasty streak.
Draft another shooter...
What say you?

who is going to guard the other team's 3 cause West can't
Posted on 4/23/09 at 10:50 am to Maximus
good call, West is a great offensive 3 but no so much a defender
I can't see West guarding guys like Lebron out on the wing as a 3

You sure about that?
quote:
The agreed-upon buy-out amount (see question number 59) is included in the team salary instead of the salary called for in the contract. If the player had more than one season left on his contract, then the buy-out money is distributed among those seasons in proportion to the original salary. For example, say a player had three seasons remaining on his contract, with salaries of $10 million, $11 million and $12 million. The player and team agree to a buyout of $15 million. The $15 million is therefore charged to the team salary over the three seasons. Since the original contract had $33 million left to be paid, and $10 million is 30.3% of $33 million, 30.3% of the $15 million buyout, or $4.545 million, is included in the team salary in the first season following the buyout. Likewise, 33.33% of $15 million, or $5 million, is included in the team salary in the second season, and 36.36% of $15 million, or $5.455 million, is included in the team salary in the third season. The distribution of the buy-out money is a matter of individual negotiation. Changing the number of years in which the money is paid does not change the number of years in which the team's team salary is charged. In the above example in which the player's contract is bought out with three seasons remaining, the buyout amount is always charged to the team salary over three seasons. It does not matter if the player is actually paid in a lump sum or over 20 years (a spread provision).

I would trade Chandler and West for A Stoudemire and Shaq.

Bowen, Devin Brown, Ely, and Marks are all unrestricted free agents. Let them all go.
Trade Chandler and Posey to Pheonix for Shaq. Contract expires next year anyway and they want to get rid of him.
Buyout or trade Peja. Re-sign Pargo.
Pick up a good SF free agent (Matt Barnes, Quentin Richardson) and Gerald Green as a FA.
That would set give us:
CP / Pargo
Rasual / Mo Pete / Gerald Green
Barnes / Rookie
West / Millsap / Julian
Shaq / Hilton
If we could get rid of the terrible contracts (Tyson, Peja, Posey), this could work. Daniels, Peja, and Chandler expire next year if we can't get rid of them.

Slick,
in your scenario, how in the hell do we end up with Millsap?

He's a free agent. More than likely the Hornets wouldn't be able to outbid the Jazz, but if we get rid of Peja, Posey, and Tyson it could work. They'd have Shaq's huge contract, but only for a year. I realize it's more of a dream scenario than a possibility, but something has to be done this offseason.

In less than a second. Boozer is going to be a FA. I think the Jazz are going to retain Milsap.

The Jazz GM would have to be drunk and high.
