I did my one World Cup game in Rio in 2014. It was awesome

Went to the Uruguay/Colombia in the knockout. I think it was about $900 in 2014. Suarez was suspended for being a vampire

Yeah, but you have to recall that every game of the entire World Cup from the group stage onward is a Super Bowl. Each of the three group stage games is a Super Bowl to the countries playing in it and for billions of fans.

I'd love to go to a World Cup game, but back in 1994 it wasn't an option and the closest place for me in Kansas City is 6 hours away and I don't think I want to drive and get a hotel room unless I was making like a whole vacation of a week in Kansas City and I have to admit I don't want to vacation in Kansas City. LOL.

But for many of us this will be the only chance in our lifetime to experience a World Cup in person, so I would definitely encourage people to do it if you have the time and money and it's practical.

The location of the sites is coastal pretty much. Wish there was another location in the Midwest like Chicago or Detroit or Minneapolis to see a game. Options in the South and the West and East Coasts are plenty.

Chicago didn't want it. I think it was under Rahm Emmanuel's administration, but the city declined to bid for a site.

Not sure why. Chicago makes a lot of sense, and is close to a lot of Canadians on the border, too.

One thing about the WC in North America, is that no one needed to build additional, permanent infrastructure for it. They're playing at established sites across the continent. Surely that helps keep costs down for the host country. You still have massive security and logistics concerns, but it's not like Atlanta had to build a brand new stadium for this.

Yeah I've read an article that he didn't want to spend the money and supposedly FIFA in their contract had something about building a roof or something and then saying FIFA has never enforced it.

Detroit and Minneapolis being hub cities for Delta and hosting big events like Super Bowls and Final Fours would have made sense. Detroit hosted in the Pontiac Silver Dome in 1994 and was the first ever WC game inside with real grass. Why does California and Texas get two cities?

I would think it is because there are tons of international flights from/to those cities but I'm not 100% sure.

DFW has direct flights to the UK, Argentina, Japan Sweden the Netherlands, Austria Switzerland and Mexcio for example. And that's not including all the non-direct flights in/out to a major hub.

Excluding Chicago as it sounds like there were other reasons, Detroit and Minny are harder to get in/out of. They can host national events as everyone is flying domestically but you have to think about international travelers.

Really Kansas City sticks out as it's not on a coast and not a major hub for airlines to me.

I think they could have skipped Seattle and put someone else in that place as well in the Midwest to your point, just not sure who outside Chicago

tickets aren't that bad in L.A. outside of USA matches. I'm going tomorrow for the Swiss/Bosnia match and the ticket with fees wasa $300 total. And not a bad seat.

There will not be another WC on this soil in my lifetime, so why not. I hit the Stanley Cup in Vegas on Sunday, so doubling down on cups this week.

KC gets one because of the importance of the Hunt family with American soccer as a whole. They're a soccer family that happens to own an NFL franchise. But the 94 World Cup and the MLS doesn't happen without the Hunts. It's an outpost, relatively speaking, but KC has a strong soccer history.

Seattle also has a strong history of supporting soccer. Pairing it with Vancouver means a fan can stay in the Pac NW and go to several games.

Boston seems like the biggest outlier to me. Especially considering that Montreal isn't hosting.

Anyone have any tips on cheaper tix?

Doesn't really help you if you aren't already in Atlanta but I have heard that buying them last minute you can get good deals.
