BREAKING NEWS: NBA has decided to suspend Clippers owner, Donald Sterling, INDEFINITELY and fine with $5 million....
My joke, you missed it.
A "Steve Howe suspension" is a supposed "lifetime" suspension which lasts an extremely short amount of time, in reference to the late Steve Howe and his extensive list of bans from baseball for substance abuse.
I'm wondering if the NBA is suspending him for the moment to get the press off their backs or if they're really planning to keep Sterling away for a long period of time.
EDIT-

One source tells us the fine has been tentatively set at $5 Mil.
Interesting... That's twice the supposed maximum fine the league can levy on an owner.

Would love to hear what he is "barred" from

they're probably going to make him stay away from the team to annoy him and try to make it so annoying/difficult he sells. publicly they're going to "investigate" until the rumblings die down so they don't have to risk a vote or litigation re: forcing him to sell
he will likely respond with litigation after a while to get back in the game and/or being stubborn and just having a black hole hover around the team until he dies

I'm thinking this is like an MLB ban... Sterling can't even buy a ticket to a game while he's banned, let alone control the Clippers or show up at the Staples Center.

Much like Al, the most the league can hope for his for Sterling to drop dead.

I'd love to be a spectator at that court case if it happens, provided that the Elgin Baylor legal team gets to present the 18 years of evidence they were not allowed to present at trial due to the 2 year limitation imposed by the judge.

The NBA wouldn't let it get to that stage. It would open them up to "OMG YOU KNEW HE WAS GARBAGE, WHY DIDN'T YOU DO SOMETHING EARLIER???"

i don't see why they would be allowed to in this case. it would be a boring case about interpretation of the NBA constitution

He reaps the profits of the Clippers and gets to hang out with less black people? Sounds like he wins

They'd throw David Stern under the bus, saying that Stern couldn't / wouldn't force Sterling out but that Silver, appointed by a very different set of owners, could do so.

David Stern smiles benignly

El.
Oh.
El.
David Stern would destroy the league. It'd be nice to see him have to answer if he suspended Jordan for gambling under oath though.
