Boston, the Gamecocks' first pick of the draft, signed for $75K. So imagine what the lower picks signed for. Compared to most stars' NIL money.

The problem isn't the number of rounds. There are about 4 weeks between the draft and when rosters have to get cut to 12. The college players have barely enough time to pack and join the team for practices. Many of them get cut before then.

The rules are set up to benefit the existing players over any new ones. As a result you get the same returning group of nobodies that no one wants to watch. The teams need to understand that it is better to sign a younger player who is more popular than the mid veteran who nobody knows, even if the vet is slightly better right now.
