This year was the 2nd greatest year ever in Washington Huskie football, things were looking up with a great coach, an undefeated record going into the playoffs, beat Oregon twice, while moving to a P2 conference the following year.

then shite happens
head coach poached, losing Penix, Odunze, McMillian, etc,
staff and players are probably following/transferring…while making the transition to a much harder conference later this year.

sticky situation currently but will UDub recover?

Depends on how committed they are to football. Did DeBoer accomplish what he did in spite of administration or did they give him support?

Depends on what you mean by recover. I’d wager a large amount they won’t be in a national title game in the next 5 years but that wasn’t the standard there anyway

Kind of a silly question in the absence of time horizon. At some point they will be good again

Ignoring the upperclassman attrition and roster turnover that will happen with the new coach, they are not ready for B10 lines week after week. All 4 of the new schools are going to have a serious adjustment with that

they need to get someone that can really recruit.

They should hire Pete Carroll

In the short term...this is definitely a kick in the sack but they have a lot to offer and with a good coach they can at least be competitive.

They have decent facilities and have increasing the assistant pool the last few years. Support isn't really an issue.

They are fricked. Gonna be a brutal transition now. They will be much closer to UCLA than Oregon.

If this were 2004 this would be a great idea but UW needs to actually improve recruiting, and a 73 year old who has been out of the college game for 15 years (when it was far simpler and not nearly as exhausting) is not the answer

“You’re going to fit right in to what we’re building here at Washington” is simply not an effective pitch when the person saying it is almost guaranteed to not see the construction through. You simply cannot recruit at a decent level as a de facto interim which is absolutely how he would be perceived
