I think my argument would be the one I've hated in this thread. "No."

Roberts > Beverly
You've got to be kidding.

Beverley has earned a reputation of being one of the best backup PG's in the league. Could be a starter in the NBA.

And as far as Lin being an All-Star if Harden wasn't on the team... I don't know about that. But he would certainly be better. Lin is a ball-dominant PG who thrives in a pick and roll offense.

Harden's strength is also the pick and roll. And since Harden is better, it was run more with him than it was with Lin.

So Lin was forced to learn to play off the ball... something he wasn't used to doing. So he had to learn.

If Harden was not on the Rockets, and Lin was allowed to play to his strengths, he would put up better numbers.

And even playing off the ball, his numbers weren't bad.

Howard and Asik won't play many minutes together. Teams would stretch them out like crazy, but Asik is the one playing the 4 there. His fouls are expendable. Dwights are not.

Regardless, if Smith starts (and I don't think he'll play starter minutes) and Davis plays the four, then the Davis/Ryan Anderson combo is far superior to Terrance Jones. How on earth you can say Jones as a starter at the 4(regardless of who is backup) is better than Davis is beyond belief.

Also, I am willing to be Montejunes is going to outplay Jones and be the starter. Jones was in the damn D-League last year. AD/Ryno is better than that combo as well.

In short, I think you're trying too hard to justify your statement by throwing Howard at the four.

I think 3 of 5 is more accurate. At the PG:
I see it like this

Defensively:
Holiday>> Beverly
Holiday>>>>Lin

Offensively:
Holiday>>Beverly
Lin> or = Holiday (but limited since Lin only goes right)

That being said, Rockets will be a top 4 seed because they have 2 All NBA players and a deep roster.

1. Beverley is an awesome defender.

2. I have not been a huge Terrence Jones guy, but Dwight Howard loves him. And Donatas has also had a great offseason. He has put on a lot of muscle.

We will see, but I think the Rockets are being underrated. I think most superstars would be frustrated in shitty Orlando and struggle to get along with Kobe. Howard will be good again. Thanks LA for footing the bill on Dwight's rehab year.

I don't think everyone has them as a contender, thus the bet I made. When the Heat were assembled, everyone handed them a championship. Since they didn't win right away, I think people got gun shy about crowning these super teams to the point where most of the experts are really discrediting the Rockets this year.

i don't think that has to do with the heat not winning in year 1. it has more to do with being in the same division as the pels. that is a scary thing for any nba team to have to deal with

lets rank the players

1. harden, HOU
2. howard, HOU
3. Anthony Davis, NOP
4. Eric Gordon, NOP
5. Ryan Anderson, NOP
6. Jrue Holliday, NOP
7. Chandler Parsons, HOU
8. Tyreke Evans, NOP
9. Omir Asik, HOU
10. Jeremy Lin, HOU

4 of the top 6 players on either team are Pelicans

HOU is definitely more top heavy, and their other players are good, but not quite as solid as the Pelicans. But because of the 2 frontline superstars, they are probably the slightly better team overall

fify

No way does Houston trade Parsons for any of the guys below him. Gordon, when healthy, might be better, but who knows at this point. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt though. Asik, Evans and Anderson are all pretty close. I think most teams would rather have the defensive stud center.

Thunder fix'n to look like the Seattle supersonics next season

Rockets will still need another season to get into the top 4 imo.... if you mean top 4 in west??? HELL YES. EASILYT

And saying: "jrue holiday, eric gordon, tyreke evans, anthony davis, al farouq aminu, ryan anderson, austin rivers" just sounds so nice. Such a solid team here

I tend to rate players on the 2 way scale, and if they do one particular thing at an elite level on side of the ball, does it marginalize the holes in a players game. For example, prime Nash being an elite shooter, distributor, etc vs. his below average D. Of course, injuries, fitness, bball IQ come into play as well

So I would rate them as follows

1.Harden
1a.Howard

3.Davis
4.Holiday

5.Asik(elite skill,mostly one way player
6.Anderson(near-elite skill,nearly a one way player)

7.Parsons(well rounded, doesn't take away much)
8.Gordon(injuries, not a distributor,overrated as a shooter)*
9.Evans(his decision making kills him)

10.Beverly

Rockets are deeper at PG,C have a vastly superior SF. PF is a question mark, but Rockets have several options there.

*a comeback season would probably vault Gordon into the 5-6 range.
