Now that the granddaddy of them all the NFL okays a move to Vegas will this take some of the Puritan stigma off of sports betting in the US... slowly opening it up on a state by state basis?

It will still be hard for the courts to defeat the massive Vegas anti-gambling lobby, though.

Which is more likely to lead to degenerate gambling? Putting 20 bucks on a sporting event that takes 3 hours or going through 20 bucks in 2 minutes on a slot machine? I honestly don't know why any state wouldn't want to get a cut on action that's taking place anyway.

Read a stat that Vegas flows through 4 billion dollars in sports gambling every year, while offshore sites combine for 15 Billion

That money will entice states eventually.

the games are already fixed, people act like legalizing gambling will affect that more. The real intense gamblers already have stats based off who the refs are, you can read them on all the gambling forums. It's no secret that anywhere where there is potential for money to be made you're going to have cheating especially with something as easy to access as a ref.

You almost have to pray these days that the game you bet on is coincides with what the refs bet on.

Soccer yeah, but I don't think every NFL, NBA, NHL game is "fixed"

There is a federal law banning expansion of sports betting beyond a few jurisdictions. Nevada, Delaware, and I believe NJ are the only states that meet the carve-out (state had to either allow sports betting or have it be under consideration at the time the law was enacted).

While there is truth to this, it's because referees and umpires have tendencies (big strike zone, calls lots of fouls on player X, etc); not because they fix games

I don't think it opens it up but it certainly is a conflict of interest for a team to be located there. I certainly would not bet on a Raiders game anymore.

A friend and I were talking about this last night.

Las Vegas will eventually die off like Atlantic City.

A few years ago there was no gambling in OH and there was in every surrounding state, MI, WV, IN, not sure about PA, but then OH passed a gambling law, there are now 3 casinos less than 40 min from my house, those surrounding state casinos are now suffering because guess what, who cares what venue I gamble at, the odds are the same so I ain't gonna drive further than I have to.

True sports book gambling is a PITA, I'm talking about really making bets on LOTS of games all the time, I've done it and ONLINE is waaaaaay easier then going down to a casino and filling out a bunch of betting stuff VS logging on my phone to XYZ service and making a bet on the shitter.

SO regardless if the govt makes it legal in more states it doesn't matter I can gamble all I want online.

NOW if you are Mayweather wanting to put down 500k on a MI game.....then you might need Vegas, but that is the exception, not the rule.
