I just hope he gets out of the NFC South...tired of pulling against him every game.

They were good this last year, much to the chagrin of Saints fans

They weren't good because of Newton, they were good because of their defense. The Panthers offense is horrendous. I realize that's not on Newton, but he is a middle of the pack quarterback that is often severely overrated. He's a sensational athlete, but only an average passer. There are several quarterbacks I'd take ahead of Cam.

Their front 7 will still be very good, unless Hardy has to miss a lot of games. Outside of that, they look terrible. I believe the Saints were better than them last season, and will most certainly be better this year barring any significant injuries. I say they go around 6-10 or 7-9, and with that, frustration will happen and he may very well want out of Carolina.

However, I can honestly say they do not scare me at all this year. While the D will certainly be good again, it's hard to take seriously an offense (as a poster above noted) that has two aging RB's, almost no credible (at this time) WR threat and a suspect O line.

that's the thing, though. this description is essentially what anyone could have said about our team last year and it managed to work out.

if J-Stew is able to play any amount of games this year unlike last, it will help a ton. our WR corp is basically the same level as last year, except we now have a the promise of a 6'5 rookie target in the redzone and an aging Cotchery who recorded more TDs than our top 2 WR last season

we lose a bit in our secondary, but I believe adding DeCoud, Harper, and Cason back there and getting a healthy Godfrey will perform just as well with arguably the best front 7 in football to help things out

I'm not predicting an awful season, but I can certainly see slipping to 8-8 from winning the division last year.

that's completely reasonable. this new group may just not click and things may not fall the way they did last year and I can't really expect them too. but I'm holding out hope that this recipe is able to work wonders again in 2014

They added Harper as their starting safety. Pretty excited about that

The strength of the team is their defense.

If you look at his stats, he really didn't perform that much different last year. His passing AND rushing attempts were career lows.

LINK

All Cam had to do last year (most of the time) was to not turn over the ball and put together a couple of good drives a game. The defense was that good.

So what do you really have in Cam? He's like a game manager type WITH the ability to pick up a couple of first downs a game with his legs and/or avoiding a sack due to his size.

How much is that worth? Honestly?

16 million is cheap for an above average to good QB these days in the NFL. You either pay it or plan to draft top 3 the next year.

What's so funny about that? Their secondary, o-line and receivers are all worse than last year.

What's funny is them going from 12 wins to 6.

They wont Franchise Cam he is not going to get paid 16.9 million by the Panthers.

You must REALLY not pay attention to the nfl

Shittier QBs are getting paid much more.

ETA: Kaep - 21mil, Ryan 20.75mil, Flacco 20.1mil, Cutler 18.1mil, Romo 18.0mil, Manning 16.25mil

I don't know about shittier since all of those guys have better credentials in some way - but there's no question Cam would be worth franchising and keeping if you are Carolina. They just won't be foolish enough to let him go and I think they'll start putting a couple more playmakers around him in the next draft or free agency.

I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but it's not an outlandish thought.

Just Look at the Falcons last year.

We also had a horrible defense, worst o-line in the NFL, no running game, and insane amount of injuries.

Receivers: yes losing smith hurt but he wasn't a true 1 reciever anymore. I think while cotchery and avant are older they should be on par with the production Lafell gave last year. Ginn had a few big catches and hixon was really a non factor. So you replace that with two experienced vets, a high potential TALL reciever, along with a very underrated TE in Olson and the addition of Ed Dickson at TE their production should be at least on par with last year.

Offensive line the only loss was Gross at LT while that is a big hole to fill the rest of the line should be solid with the addition of Trai Turner and having Kahlil anchor the middle

The secondary has the potential to be improved. I like Cason better than Munnerlyn and we have a bunch of young promising corners. Also with Godfry coming back that can only help. I think DeCoud also adds quality at safety

Once we get out of salary cap hell with our running backs contracts we should have flexibility to sign Cam and a few quality FAs

You laugh, but what were their records during Cams first two seasons?

They aren't a good team outside of their front 7. Me predicting them going 7-9 is actually being fair.

I'm just saying 12 wins doesn't guarentee 6 the next year, or even 1.
