If you say no, would him winning a super bowl change your opinion?

As in,if he wins the Superbowl this season then never play again? No.

These questions are always impossible to answer unless the guy is on the back end of his career.

Considering how many records he has set and broken and other accomplishments as well in his first 7 years, if he finally wins a Superbowl he absolutely deserves to be a shoe in.

I think he'll need a Super Bowl or another 5 years of similar productivity.

Not sure how he'll hold up into his 30s the way he plays the game.

Maybe if he was the mvp.

He's had about 2-3 HOF worthy seasons. That's it. I've never understood the hype behind him. When the Panthers won it was due to having an elite defense and running game. Cam's not winning games when those two things are not prevalent.

He has a poster moment of quit, a playing style that doesn't argue for a lot of counting stat accumulation, and a lack of winning on the biggest stage. He needs something more than what he's had so far, for certain. I think he'll find a way to sneak in the back door, on the down low through a veterans committee pick or something similar.

Even if he's at the midpoint of his career-- being generous with his play style-- he's unlikely to get to 300TDs without passing 200INTs. Give him 50K yards, because passing isn't going to get any harder by rule as time goes on-- and those are pretty pedestrian counting stats.

I'll put it this way-- today there is a quarterback who also wins about 55% of his games, has 330+ TDs, about 165 INT, and about 50K passing yards. No one is exactly clamoring about his Hall of Fame chances, either.

I’d say it’s a coin toss right now. If he tracks the way he has been, wins another MVP, maybe a Super Bowl, I’d say yeah.

I’ll tell you this. If Eli manages to get in, Newton and a few others most assuredly will also.

7th best defense in the league

I will say when he's not losing you games. He takes care of the ball and he's the qb you want for a 4th and 1.

But this is the HOF we're talking about. He's not winning a super bowl in Carolina. Team is horribly built and they've drafted poorly. And now you have ownership issues out the arse.

Eh. Eli has *two* championships, and sort of laps Newton on the counting stats as well. Even if you take the optimistic angle, and say Newton doubles his career numbers, he's in behind where Eli is already, with less championships and less season and era-defining moments.

He's a serviceable qb. Top 12ish every season he's played. This is a HOF discussion. He's not getting in at this rate.
