Why isn't ufc prime time non ppv tv?

I know money. It just seems like if it was "free" the brand would grow, the excitement would grow, and other sports make plenty off tv deals that i feel the ufc could simulate. I just don't see how they couldn't work out a tv deal where people wouldn't have to pay to see the fights. I love ufc, but I can't spend money on a fight that might last a minute.

UFC was better when it was on Spike. Now it's all over the map hard to track down.

If your theory is correct, why has the NFL not made prime time games ppv?

Because they don't need to. Networks pay the NFL a shitload of money to show their games because they have no trouble selling the air time and know exactly what they are getting in an NFL game. It's not the same for MMA. Sponsors aren't beating down the door to buy air time and you never know WTF is going to happen during an MMA bout.
ETA: As for my "theory", you think UFC is turning down more money from network TV? Seriously? They are a fight promotion. Their goal is to maximize profits. They do what makes the most money. At the moment, that is big fights on PPV and a bunch of free shows on cable.
ETA2:
2. You get 5 fights on a PPV, not one. Add to that the 4 or 5 prelim fights on free tv, you're getting a night full of MMA.
3. This is like saying you love boxing, but wouldn't pay for a Tyson fight because he might destroy his opponent in the first. People love finishes. Well, except for you.

ETA2:

The Kimbo Slice fight did some serious damage to non-ppv hopes.
It just doesn't have insanely broad appeal and a lot of the people that don't watch it think it's barbaric.

There is enough trash on cable already. I'd rather they keep it PPV and keep the trashy folks poor

it's too hard to go to ufc.com, click on their schedule page, and see the clearly posted dates/time/channels listed?
