i think it has to do with the schools they compare themselves to... they think since they're better than grambling that's good enough even if they're in the 300s in basketball, etc.

Southern is actually having a solid season so far. If you guys are going to consistently hammer Southern for not being "good", please tell me when was the last time Nicholls, SLU, or Northwestern State actually made it to the playoffs in football. The Ivy League thinks so highly of the FCS playoff system that they don't even send their schools, but Southern gets hammered for attending The Classic and making more money than the playoffs. Where are the championships? Where are the attendance records, etc? Just like everywhere else athletics serve a purpose on college campuses across the country and Southern is no different. Basketball is competitive, baseball is competitive, and they have several other solid programs. As for the HBCUs, they filled a need during segregation and they fill a need right now to provide affordable education and opportunities to people who may not be able to get it elsewhere. I know a lot of successful business people, educators, people in the health professions, and other walks of life that attended HBCUs.

Southern Jaguars made the NCAA tournament last year and gave Gonzaga a pretty decent game.

Pretty sure Catholic High would rape Southern's baseball team. In no way, shape, or form are they competitive.

Thats absolutely and utterly ridiculous. They win the SWAC every few years and gave LSU a good game in the regional a couple years ago. I think it was 7-2 or something with Southern leading early.
By your estimates, Catholic High could compete with LSU, right?

Southern is a fricking joke and you know it. Pell Grant assembly area with a shitty graduation rate and bad athletics. That's why people hate it.

Amazing that the program has fallen this far. In the 90s SU was the dominant program in black college football.

SU had the NUMBER 2 player taken overall in the MLB draft a few years back (Ricki Weeks).
Basketball is decent. They almost had a major upset on national TV last year.
Football could be better, but they have the best fans in FCS imo. No matter where they are playing, SU fans travel DEEP. They contributed to attendance records for ULL and others.
SU has a strong NROTC program & their engineering program isnt too bad. HBCUs are not all black so save that race baiting shite. Like any other school SU has its shitbags that need to be kicked out.
