There hasn't been a team that won a NC with a defensive FEI ranked lower than 16th in the last 11 years. OU is ranked 94th in Defensive FEI this year. Even last year's OU was much better defensively ranking 51st in Defensive FEI. And teams that shared a similar profile to them such as 2013 Texas A&M and 2012 Baylor were usually 8-5, 9-4 teams. It's pretty unprecedented how Oklahoma is winning games this year with virtually no defensive support.

With every rule change in the last half century favoring offenses and no sign of that trend changing (due to the NCAA's crusade for player safety, err television ratings.) it will in the future.
