lol, you sound mad mma has taken over and will never give it back.
Boxing can have that one or two big ppv sells a year, but that doesn't make up for the quality they are lacking. Sure manny/ssm probably sold more ppv buys than any UFC event, but look at how shitty that fight was. SSM was begging his corner to throw in the towel, running around the ring, and holding on for dear life. He wasn't even trying to win, he was just trying not to get KO'ed.
UFC has more excitement on its undercards than boxing has in its main events. You can say most don't have versus, but the fact remains that boxing isn't shown on there. Only live boxing you're going to see on cable is Friday night fights or some scrubs on fsn. Yes mma only has that weekly show on espn, but I was talking about espn actually showing the results from fights. JDS' face was on the front page of espn.com the other week, and sportscenter actually shows highlights/results now. That wasn't the case just a short time ago.....
and you can attempt to make fun of wrestling/bjj, but these guys would destroy any top level boxer in a fight any day of the week. A 5'9" 170lbs GSP would put either of the Klit brothers on their back and elbow their brains in within 2 minutes in a real fight. But I guess real fighting is pointless/useless to you, you're only interested in one dimension. You must be Peja's biggest fan

Boxing died because of:
1.) The inception of the IBF (which gave other people the idea to form their own sanctioning bodies). So, instead of just the WBA and WBC, there are who-knows-how-many titles.
2.) Don King. He's corrupt. He protected his fighters from fighting the best contender for years.
3.) Pay per view. Charging 50 bucks for a fight on PPV in 1986 was robbery. Lost a LOT of the average fans who didn't want to go watch at a bar.
4.) The death of Cus D'Amato. A very disciplined and focused Mike Tyson lost his mentor. There was really nobody to take his place once he lost his edge. This allowed King to really take over the sport, which led to:
5.) James "Buster" Douglas

I wouldn't go as far to say boxing is dead, but it is definitely on the decline and will continue to do so. No going back to where it once was, no way. The days of Ali, Tyson, and Rocky are long gone....generations ago.

They have never done this for boxing

Just like Nick Diaz pulling out of the fight with Lacy, and Lacy is a washed up bum.. Yes an MMA guy would kill a boxing guy with all the MMA rules.. Just like any boxer would destroy any MMA guy in boxing.. Blah, blah, blah

Not to mention Sugar Ray Leonard, Larry Holmes, Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini, Hagler, Hearns, No Mas, and all those feisty little 120 lb Mexicans (but I guess they still have those...
Oh, and let's not forget, "Live from Rahway State Penitentiary in New Jersey..."

Did you happen to catch the UFC undercards on Saturday? More "excitement" in those fights than the whole year of boxing combined.
Mma is on spike, versus, and not sure which channels cover bellator. Point is, mma is much more accessible and that's a major reason for the takeover.
Look, I grew up watching boxing and used to love it. I still watch it occassionally, but usually end up regretting it. It's a shame what those in power have done to the sport, but I'm glad mma has stepped up and I'm here to witness what is currently happening. I agree that there's no point in arguing, cause like I said there's no denying the inevitable. All we can do is sit back, relax, and enjoy this great new sport that is evolving with every month that passes....truly history in the making

You were the one saying the guys on the ground were not doing anything "useful". Of course a boxer will beat an mma fighter in "boxing". But an mma fighter will destroy a boxer in "fighting". Learning to fight on the ground, use knees, elbows, feet, is definitely useful.
and if you can't comprehend what I'm saying about espn finally covering mma and mma finally getting national exposure, then I can't help ya.

So you think what UFC is doing by buying Strickforce, WEC is a good thing for the sport.. You must be blind

We could line-up the 20 best/ most exciting boxing and mma fights over the past year, and mma would win 15+ of them.
and yes I like what the UFC has done. Soon, all the greatest fighters in the world will all be in the same organization fighting for the same belt. Each card will be stacked and there will be no question about who is the best. A far cry from boxing and their incompetent system...

and when you're said and done... Most MMA fights end up on their feet using hands or should I say "boxing"... Do you know why?? Because people want to see people fighting.. Not laying on top of each other dry fricking each other, or on the cage trying to get "position"..

It'd be impossible to do this right now, but I'd gladly do it sometime....you'd have to be completely objective though and we'd need to set-up parameters. Holler at me after Tuesday

Ward-Gatti, Ali-Frazier 1 and 3, 2 from Morrales-Berrara, Hatton-Tszyu, Corrales-Castillo 1, Chavez-Taylor, Dempsey-Tunney...
Just off the top of my head so Im sure I left out some great ones, regardless id watch those all day over a great MMA fight.
Boxing allows miraculous comebacks because of the KO factor, you go down in MMA, you get elbows rained down on you and its over (a majority of the time).
Just a matter of preference is all, I have all the respect in the world for MMA guys but just prefer boxing.

Why don't you guys just start naming some of your favorite fights this year both MMA and Boxing. And which fights you look forward to the most for the rest of the year. No need to look them up if they weren't boring.

I'm a fan of both, and in my opinion there's a much greater chance of miraculous comebacks in MMA than in boxing.
