re: Why don't the Bengals cut ties with Shemir Stewart and just sign Hendrickson to a deal?

So that’s the big sticking point then? Late hits? Ok get it amended. But his camp already said no to that publicly.
the sticking point is it being a vague and ambiguous provision. Saying you don't think the Bengals will enforce that provision based on certain conduct but will on other conduct is very naive and, again, up to one person's interpretation of what "conduct detrimental to the team" means. What might be conduct detrimental to one person may not be to another unless that type of conduct is defined within the contract so that everyone is clear on what exactly would be a basis to void his guarantees. This isn't a complicated issue. Yes, there are certain things everyone would agree would fall under that. No one would argue, for instance, that being caught on video beating the shite out of your girlfriend would be conduct detrimental to the team. But there are plenty of instances that fall in the grey area that would be completely open to interpretation. When employers put language like that in a contract, they are looking for a reason not to pay your guarantees, especially if you aren't performing on the field. And that's exactly why Stewart isn't signing the contract as is nor should he.

Ok. Let’s hear some examples of these ambiguous actions then. do you disagree that “shutting up and playing football” would be a good way to avoid any issues?

Except the clause doesn’t say “comments made” it says comments he makes
so if hes asked by the media about comments hes made in the past and it gets brought to light it cant be used against him via this clause? is that what you believe?

quote:based on the clause, yea they have a defense and will win that as long as he doesn’t further expound on what he said. This isn’t hard lol

well with the way its worded it kinda seems like the bengals can use whatever they like to justify not paying the man, which you of course understand because you wouldnt sign it yourself

The ones you listed where you “think” the Bengals wouldn’t invoke the provision is a good place to start

Calling your girlfriend a bitch is bad form, but it shouldn’t cost you or I or Stewart a job of money.

its funny cause you dont have anyone agreeing with you in here. just getting downvoted and your arguments are flowing past us like water around a stone.
youve conceded 3 times by admitting you wouldnt sign the clause yourself, saying they likely wouldnt enforce whats written in the clause that would save them millions, and recognizing it could be an on field infraction and that they should amend it.
do you work in the bengals front office?

As a multi million dollar investment, you have to not be that dumb. Actions have consequences.
