Next time we'll cover why the Netherlands wear orange when their flag color is red, white and blue.

Soccer is incredibly interesting to watch even when there is low scoring. You just have to know what you're watching.

no, it isn't. And I've tried many times over the years to like the game.

It is to the vast majority of people. You're falsely assuming that everyone thinks like you.

But the current game is simply unwatchable, for many reasons.

You say the “current game” like it’s not the same sport it’s been for all eternity.
If you don’t like it don’t watch it. But your level of reasoning on this sounds like that of a 9-year-old. Grow up

Why Is The National Color Of The Netherlands Orange?

quote:

The insurgents’ flag was “Orange, White and Blue“ and was called de Prinsenvlag, meaning the Prince of Orange flag.

quote:

Why Did The Dutch Flag Change From Orange To Red? There are three explanations why orange was replaced by red in the Dutch national flag. A first explanation is that the orange is less visible at sea. At that time, the Netherlands depended hugely on business overseas for their economic survival. This may have been a convincing argument in those days. A second explanation is that orange was too difficult to make. The color red was easier and cheaper to produce. To make the color orange, you need rare raw materials. These scarce materials were so rare and expensive that red became a good alternative. A third and the most likely explanation of the change from orange to red in the Dutch flag is that this change reflects the outcome of a political power struggle. After William of Orange’s death in 1584, his son Maurits of Orange became his successor as commander of the Dutch army. In the next two decades, he was extremely successful in the war against Spain and conquered much of The Netherlands’ territory today.

grow up? I'm not emotionally ranting here. I've given rational, concrete reasons why the game is flawed.

The lack of offense (including the offsides rule) and draconic PK remedy for fouls in the box are two of the main issues.

Just because I have a different opinion that you doesn't mean I need to "grow up."

I love when non-soccer people think they have the answer for fixing somethin they don't understand.

... for you. People that understand the game and the tactics don't agree.

It also doesn't mean the game needs to change to what you think it should be.

You want to get rid of the offsides rule?

no, but modify it to open up the offense and allow more scoring.

I mean, the good Lord himself didn't make these rules. They can be evaluated and revised.

Hell, football initially didn't allow the forward pass.

Basketball initially didn't have a shot clock or 3-point line.

Rules can change.

You do realize that soccer is the most popular sport on the planet, correct?

again, that's because all you need is a ball. No other equipment or infrastructure required.

Does that somehow make your statement true? “Most sports fans” choose to watch soccer over everything else.

If you want to sound less ignorant try, “Most American sports fans”.

So you want to modify the rules of the most popular sport in the world because you don’t understand the game?

I understand there's precious little scoring, and that the offsides rule squashes many exciting offensive opportunities.

Nice to see how you dodged my comment about football and basketball rule changes that opened the game up and made it more enjoyable to play and watch.

I left out baseball, which lowered the mound and is now experimenting with moving the mound back, to increase offense.

But soccer is perfect, so let's not even consider changing a thing.

Yes let’s change the rules to appease a minority of sports fans who don’t understand the game and, therefore, don’t enjoy watching it.

ETA: I don’t like basketball because they score too much. They should be allowed to tackle each other to make it more interesting.

good god, how hard is it to understand? Yes, I realize there's probably some formations, spacing, and strategy that I don't fully understand, since I've never played.

But let's stop with the notion that soccer can only be understood by those who have played.

At the end of the day, it a bunch of guys kicking a ball back and forth, with frequent turnovers, and VERY FEW real scoring opportunities.

But hey, you keep watching. I'll go watch my grass grow.

hey, at least I'll give you credit for suggesting a rule change to make the sport better, in your opinion.

Now do the same for soccer. Seriously.

Give me one rule change to soccer that would make the game better. Just one. And it can be minor, but just give me one.

No one is saying that, we’re saying you clearly don’t understand soccer
