I cant wait for the day college basketball switches to a 7 game playoff series format.

Oh, wait...that's never going to happen.

If that's the case, why play the 30+ games before hand?

To put yourself in a better position to win the championship.

You just lost the argument with this statement.

The regular season does absolutely nothing to help put a team in a better position to win a championship (over any other team).

The NCAA tournament is one and done, all games are played on a neutral court, and with the exception of the play in games, all teams have to win the same amount of games to win a title. The higher seeds get a slight advantage of a lesser opponent in the first round, that's it.

In the NFL, the best teams get homefield and byes. NBA the better team gets home court. Ncaa tournament provides no reward for the top teams. It renders the regular season useless for all intents and purposes.

NCAA tournament winner has ALWAYS been...simply, tournament winner. And in the NCAA world outside of football. Tournament winner is declared the champion.

Only football debates "best." All the other sports just say tournament winner or National NCAA tournament champions.

UNC is NCAA tournament champions. Every team has different draws, different venues and far different officiating half the time. But it's a tournament...winner gets to to hold the trophy.

There's no more eye-test or preconceptions. As bad as the NCAA is at determining a champion...at least they play more than 12 or 13 games all year...and are forced to go outside their conference at the end...and are forced to play 5 teams they would not have normally played.

The NCAA tournament isn't insular or eye-ball test...and bereft of challenge like football often is.

Polls gets you into the tournament...polls still determine the MNC champ. In fact, Boeheim says that all polls should be eliminated - that all teams should be invited to the NCAA tournament. Because polls are mostly bias and preconceptions and bullshite.

Be honest, this thread is a mis-direction for the Falcons blowing a crazy lead in the SB

Then why was North Carolina in the tournament and not NC State? The regular season put them in position to be able to go to the tournament. Not only that, the teams who do better in the regular season are reward with higher seeds which matches them up with less regarded teams. In addition to that, the top seeds are additionally helped by getting placed at sites closer to their home when possible. So yeah, the 30 game regular season means a lot, just maybe not necessarily any individual games.

Teams that are barely above .500 partake in the tournament to crown the national champion. No team gets home court, no team gets a bye. There isn't a "best of" to give a team a pass if they have one off shooting night.

The 7th place team in the acc doesn't need to play for a national championship, nor does the swac champion.

I preferred when only conference champs and two Ind were invited.

16 teams. Sec 2nd place Kentucky won one when mississippi state was not allowed to play vs blacks. Everyone knew who the best team was. Bailey howell.
