Why did the LHSAA just decide to split the money sports?

They split football, basketball, baseball and softball for what they say is competition reasons. They just happen to be the biggest money makers. But the biggest disparity between public and private competition wise in Louisiana is soccer and volleyball. The private schools dominate these sports. And they make no money.
So was the split about competitive advantage or was it about money?

How many schools have a volleyball and soccer team? Can't imagine any schools below 4A have them.

But every school 1A and up has football. All have bball.

There are 293 (223 public and 70 private) football schools
203 volleyball schools
161 boys soccer schools
156 girls soccer schools

And yes there are a higher percentage of privates playing the other sports. But if this is truly about the kids having having a "fair" chance, then why not split them too. Why is it fair for them to get crushed every game. Louisiana has instituted a mercy rule in soccer now because of this. Why should the kids playing the money sports be protected by the LHSAA and the other kids aren't. Where is the "fairness" for them. Is it because they don't bring in the same money?

This has nothing to do about "fairness" or competitive advantage. Just a bunch of principals ( like Norman Booker) who are trying to make it easy for their schools to get a trophy. Principals like Booker have no desire to do what is actually best for the association which is why he/they are only changing sports that helps him/them get more watered down trophies.

The split softball/baseball brackets will be a joke.

What will make it real for a bunch of principals on the fence, is when the LHSAA starts running at a loss due to the increased championship events, they will need to make it up some kind of way.

Hello higher dues...

Exactly, the split has already cost the LHSAA money, this will only make it worse. They have already ruined the Superdome Classic (which has seen severely decreased attendance per game)...unfortunate they haven't learned their lesson.

You must have went to a public school because your reading comprehension skills are lacking.

No I'm not a principal and I am very anti split. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of their fairness narrative.

As if Barbe baseball isn't the same as the "recruitment" at some private schools

I know of at least two players that were recruited to Barbe FROM private schools. Private schools that were an hour away or 2 and a half hours away from Lake Charles.

bottom line those that wanted the split wanted it regardless of competition and economics.....

many wanted it for their own parochial interests...
