New Orleans was the 15th largest city in the US in 1940 and 1960. 16th largest in 1930 and 1950. Kind of weird they never had one back then when baseball was so popular.
Zero chance of supporting one now. Too small of a market and the city's demographics aren't exactly big baseball fans.

Baseball up until 1953 did NOT have a team past the Mississippi River (St. Louis on the Mississippi was the western-most team) and nothing south of Washington DC. It was strictly a northern deal.
Which raises a question whether college football would have become such a big thing in the south if we had had MLB. The NFL was irrelevant until the late fifties-early sixties and it wasn't in the south either. If you wanted to root for a local team it had to be college.

It wasn't until the Yankees in 1946 that a team chartered a plane for a full season.

Baseball culture for a city is really hard to ingrain well enough that the franchise will survive through the down years.
Baltimore had multiple 100 loss seasons in top of 300 annual murders (Camden Yards is downtown) and the city was still full of Orioles shirts.
The Rays had one of the most successful franchise years in 2021 from MLB through low-A, and still nobody wants to drive out to St. Petersburg in that fricking traffic.
The only MiLB league team I saw completely get the entire city to buy in from day 1 was the Rocket City Trash Pandas. An absolute master class in branding.
Hawaii had a great MiLB franchise for decades until they moved the stadium about 15 minutes farther away and nobody wanted to go to games anymore.
Baseball is a weird sport and growing baseball culture is even weirder. Who the hell knows if New Orleans could maintain a franchise or not.

Do you all actually want one? MLB has been a joke for decades now. I can assure you it's not all what it's cracked up to be.

Even after that plenty of teams used buses and trains until the Dodgers and Giants moved to California.
