Why are former USC (west) head coaches so successful somewhere else?

Lane Kiffin was fired on the tarmac after his USC team got demolished by Arizona State. Now his Rebels are playing great and sitting at number 5. Ed Orgeron took over the team as interim head coach but left after USC declined to make his tenure permanent. We all know he did pretty well after that until, well, some folks just can't stand prosperity.
Orgeron was replaced by Steve Sarkisian who was terminated by USC after, reportedly, having intoxication problems. Sark is now the head coach of the number 1 team in the country.
Seems to be a pattern here. USC has great facilities, a loyal and affluent fan base and sits in a great recruiting area. So why did these guys have to go somewhere else to find success?

Pete Carrol was pretty damn successful both at USC and in Seattle

In the case of Sark and Kiffin both were very promising but young(ish) and matured through some personal issues. I don’t think it’s related to USC at all, just a coincidence

Kiffin was crushed by sanctions and acted like a 13 year old
Ed O had success as interim, but Pat Haden was an a-hole and didn't like him because of his accent.
Sark was a rock bottom alcoholic drunk at work
Kiffin and Sark then went to Saban rehab (and actual rehab)
Not that complicated

Yes, but he did great at Washington before USC hired him.
Kiffin was acting like a thirteen year old? As the witch in the Monty Python movie said, "that's a fair cop."

He got them out of the depths of the Willingham era, but his nickname was 7 Win Steve for a reason. His drinking was becoming a serious issue too and Pat Haden did zero vetting.
He did recruit at a very high level at USC and loaded up the roster for Helton to have 2 successful years with Sark's players. If he wasn't an alcoholic, I think he would have had success.
