That's what I've been saying all along, athletic branding.
And yes, I say UL because in the Lafayette area; everyone knows who I'm talking about including the LSU folks.
Saying UL isn't breaking the law. It's when the school uses the letters on paper that its illegal.

I hope y'all play each other in the CWS.

No, but it proves that it's a stupid premise to go by. You dont change your brand once your program reaches certain standards and has a certain level of tradition. And even if that were the case, changing your school's name after you achieve a certain level of tradition would do more harm than good with all that tradition that you built. You start with a name/brand and then build tradition off of that.

Why is the academic website "www.louisiana.edu" ?
It's perfectly legal. "Louisiana" by itself without "University of" behind it is completely fine.

And yes, I say UL

Holy shite. This is still happening.

I tell people I go to UL Lafayette or Louisiana Lafayette. I tell people I root for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.

We are in talking in terms of what the university can and cannot do, not what I say when asked what school I go to.
Now, it looks like you're arguing just for the sake to argue.

we're almost [at] to 20 guys!!!
and would you believe, the other day I was watching a mid week baseball game, and on one teams chest they had the word carolina, and on the other teams chest they had the word (you guessed it) carolina. now how in the world can they do that.
one jersey was blue and the other was this maroonish color. but ive never heard of just univ of carolina, i thought it was NAIA or something
eta: we got to 20 while i was typing

So we need to be policing what fans or students call it?

quote:Right, and schools like Texas, Michigan, etc. didn't have to. They were always just "Texas" or "Michigan". More than likely, the satellite campuses like San Antonio came well after the Austin campus had been established for eons.

BTW this is straight from the University guidelines
LINK
CBS uses UL- Lafayette Ragin Cajun on there website for your school. Apparently this is unacceptable by your school guidelines yet a top 3 network won't follow the guidelines. Not a flame post but 1st off you need to get the NCAA and media on board with the re brand. Plain and simple.

Ragin Cajuns (without the apostrophe)
Lady Cajuns (former name of the women’s teams) See

But when the University calls out these networks on that, it's viewed as simple whining.

CBS also pays Verne Lundquist a salary.
They are obviously not hitting on all cylinders.

It is whining. DWI. You should be thankful for being on their network in the first place.
