You don't see UCLA trying to go by UC do you? I know that's not the greatest example due to the other large schools in California but the point is that you don't build your brand by your school name, you build it by being good at sports and competing on a national level.

You're not even in the same stratosphere as those universities, yet you think that simply removing the second "L" from your name will change that.

Moving to a tier one status, growing enrollment, and increased research funding are just a few examples of how the school will push "the movement." The name thing usually follows that with a marketing plan. That's kind of what is going on with the university right now.

And you say that it's funny that the school is pushing for "UL" because they aren't on the same level as the other two schools that I mentioned, but why would a name brand be that different? Because its really not. I don't see what you are trying to conclude here.

It's like the University of Texas at Austin being referred to as the Texas Longhorns in athletics.
No, it's nothing like that, actually.

Please stop with these absurd comparisons. You aren't doing yourselves any favors in terms of being taken seriously.

That is indeed a terrible example because there's a University of California at Berkley that brands itself athletically as Cal

Cal-Berkley took that name already. They go by either "California" or simply "Cal."

I got this off of UTexas.edu. its all so confusing! How can they call themselves Texas at Austin as well as Texas? I don't even know who they are?! Identity crisis U amirite? LSU fans should stop that travesty.

Hey, that's great that you're improving, but it doesn't mean you're on the same level as some of the other universities that we cited.

Good heavens, it's simple logic. We have a city designation attached to our name. We take that city designation and remove it for branding purposes in athletics. How hard is that to comprehend?

But in some people's minds, they're at some imaginary level so it's ok for them to do that.

Right, because you think you're one of the big boys when you're not.

Yeah, that huge enrollment, strict admission standards, gobs of money & prestige...that's all imagined! Y'all are almost the exact same school.

According to whose standards?

Is there some imaginary rule that you pull out of your pocket that says we can't do otherwise?

Who says you have to be the best school in the state to brand yourself this way? Does Ohio State have a problem with Ohio's name?

Which has jack shite to do with anything. Youre grasping at straws. The official name of that university is The University of Texas at Austin. They don't go by UTA or UT Austin Longhorns. The University of Texas at Austin competes as the Texas Longhorns.

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette competes as the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns. Its the exact same premise and it has nothing to do with your little red herring argument about academic prestige or enrollment. Its athletic branding.

Thing is people know University of Texas at Austin= Texas Longhorns. There is no confusion. They see University of Tennessee Knoxville=Tennessee Volunteers. People don't see University of Louisiana Lafayette= Louisiana Ragin' Cajun. You need to get a bigger profile, which you are currently doing before a change like this will stick.
