That Shaq was filthy and impossible to guard. But there's still room to debate this because the supporting cast around Shaq and Kobe was either terrible or old as hell.

I'd like to have seen them match up against the Heat from this year for example.

I think you mean 03 Spurs...and yes they were really good, as were there 05 and 07 teams. Spurs are always overlooked because they're not an exciting team

Lol last year the heat had a game 7. Why does everyone act like they are this once in a century team? Jesus they'd get routed

Lakers were better IMO. No big man in the history of basketball was better than Shaq in his prime. Miami would have no answer for him.

lol wut? Derek Fisher played out of his mind once he got back from his injury. He's never played at a higher level. Horry, fox, shaw, Grant were all solid role players

+1 I love this Heat team but they're not on the Lakers level IMHO

Out of his mind? He averaged just over 10 points for the entire year. He's not terrible as filler if you don't have a star to play instead but out of his mind?

The dropoff between Shaq and Kobe and the rest of the team was enormous IMO. Not just because they were an amazing combination but also because their supporting cast was not very good. Rick Fox should have his cock bronzed for landing Vanessa Williams but a guy who averages less than 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists just isn't doing very much. Horace Grant was a great supporting player back during the Bulls first three-peat but 7 rebounds and 8 points per game are not numbers that make you happy out of a starter.

FWIW, I would favor the 00-01 Lakers because of Shaq but their lack of good supporting characters makes it less cut and dried

There isn't a team since 2000 that would take the '01 Lakers to 7 games, maybe not even 6.

I think the biggest matchup problem for them would honestly be the '08 Celtics.

As stacked as Miami is right now, prime Shaq would shite all over the current Miami Heat and Wade wouldn't be a match for '01 Kobe.

I'm a HUGE Spurs homer, obviously, but of all the Spurs' title teams, the '07 team was the "weakest," IMO. The Mavs had our number that year, no ifs, ands, or buts. We were just lucky that the one team in the league that had the Mavs' number (Golden State), drew them in the first round and took them out.

Most title runs for any team involve a little good fortune.

he played at a high level in the playoffs, his outside shot was deadly during the playoff run. He shot over 50% from the three point line.

I know its bleacherreport, but it has their record and opponents:

LINK

quote:

First were the Portland Trail Blazers, who stretched the Lakers to seven games in the 2000 Western Conference Finals.

In a five game, first round format, the Lakers made short work of the Blazers by sweeping them in three games and cruising with a 14-point average margin of victory in the series.

Next was the Sacramento Kings who pushed the Lakers to five games in 2000.

The Kings gave a more spirited performance than the Trail Blazers, but in the end, the results were the same as the Lakers coasted to a four game sweep in the second round in a hard fought contest that was closer than it seemed.

Next were Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs, who supposedly represented the Lakers toughest postseason challenge to date in the Western Conference Finals.

The Lakers won Game Two in that series by a score of 87-80 and the seven point deficit was as close as the Spurs would ever get to the Lakers as they were pummeled into submission by an average of 22 points per game in another four game series sweep.

The Lakers entered the 2001 NBA Finals with an 11-0 record in the postseason and dreams of an undefeated playoff run, but Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers erased those thoughts with a 107-101 overtime victory in Game One on the Lakers home floor.

Los Angeles narrowly escaped a second defeat in Game Two and as the players walked off the court Bryant and Iverson engaged in a lively animated dialogue in which Iverson reminded Bryant who held home court advantage in the series now.

But Iverson's victory in Game One would prove to be his high point of the series and possibly his career as the Lakers won a 97-91 squeaker in Game Three and then closed the series in double digit fashion in Games Four and Five.
