Who else here played Louisiana Biddy Basketball growing up?

I miss those days. I remember our all star teams having to place in the Top 2 or 3 at the district tournament to advance to the state tournament.
Then we had to place in the Top 2 or 3 at the state tournament to advance to the regional tournament.
Then we had to place in the Top 2 or 3 at the regional tournament to advance to Nationals.
Of course we did not always advance far, but looking back, it was nice having to earn our way forward and not just able to pay an entrance fee to play in whatever tournament we wanted.

I did, I don't remember any entrance fee....we ended up 2nd in state, lost in the finals to go Nationals.
In my time, you had to win state to go to Nationals

I played biddy all stars with Marcus Spears. He was too tall, and I was too white so we hung out at the end of the bench. Good times.

Same for me as well. We lost in the finals and missed playing the Nationals in Puerto Rico.

I was a NORD biddy all star back in the day.

Playing in Biddy basketball all star tournaments are probably my favorite times I've had as a kid.

Played too. Won district, unfortunately couldn’t get past regionals and make it to nationals

Made it to Nationals in Puerto Rico the year that St. Bernard parish won it all. Their best player was a big white kid. Loved to know what happened to him. This was 1980.

Yup...back in the 80's. Played in St. Charles Parish and that was either before there were girls teams or she simply played with the boys, but we used to play against Dana "Pokey" Chapman who played for Ama. Nickname at the time was Shotgun Shirley...for whatever reason.
She was obviously fantastic in high school as well...

Pokey was a Sr my Fr year, but I played all stars with lots of dudes from Hahnville and Ama, and we all watched her like she was an NBA star back then. All them LeBeuf boys and Triche's could play!
True story. My freshman year, going into the gym heading to baseball practice, I'm watching her shoot free throw's with her her heels on the free throw line, arched backwards, and drains like 8-10.
Years later, we're friends on FB and after the initial "whats up, how you been", I asked her, you think you could still make 8-10 from the line backwards? Her response........"nah, I'd hit 10-10".

I played in the mandeville biddy league. We had such a heated rivalry with the Slidell teams. JPRD usually beat our arse, but we finally got them when we were all 12.
Anyone remember that old guy, last name Fontenot? He was huge in Biddy ball back in the late 80s and 90s.

Yup! I played All Stars with Derek I think. I'm a year younger than Dana, so I would have been a junior your freshman year. Prolly know each other.

Um, we DEFINITELY know each other, though I'm not remembering any freshman on that baseball team in 1987.

i wasn't on the varsity that year. weber, and I think wise was coaching the freshmen and ole 1 nut Tassin (that actually happened a couple years later) was coaching the varsity.

Biddy ball is just Daddy coaching ball now

I played as well, allstars every year. My boys are both still playing and are starting their allstar seasons this week actually.
And like you JPRD West (they had East and West when I played) always beat our arse. And that was when they actually had a height limit.

Yeah...we were stuck with EJ as head coach that year. The guy spent most of his time riding around on the damned tractor cutting the outfield while we ran practice ourselves. We used to waste SO MUCH TALENT at Hahnville back then... Best thing that happened was when he stepped down and Coach Weber took over as head coach my senior year.
You part of the team that next year in '88? Played Legion too that summer?
Posted on 1/25/22 at 9:14 am to GeauxTigerTM
that picture is awesome, and that statement about him riding on the tractor couldn't be more true!!! i remember him yelling, warm up, someone get on the mound and throw some BP and his arse was cruising around the field. Hilarious
top row. Carlos; Dr Ben, Chad????, Dr Craig, Mike???
Marvin, ???, Britton, Ron, Chris, Roger
Eric, Bruiser, Jeff, Roger, Kelly
I was prop 48 that year! lol i was an idiot.

i remember looking at the oubre's, benoit, debaut, all those older guys, and wondering why we never made the playoffs, or went far.
my jr year i don't play due to grades. my senior year, we had weber and wise and we did well. won on the road against OP walker, then had a really close game against Belaire out of BR which Carlos was pitching one hell of a game....off-speed crap they couldn't hit...and was gassed. So they brought in Harris and Belair mounted a comeback. me and ron actually turned a DP that would have ended that game, but the ump said Ron missed 2nd, which allowed runners from 3rd and 2nd to score and them take the lead 7-6.....and we didn't do anything in the bottom half. that was my Sr year.
