This was a pretty solid video. The class that came out of TUF season 1 defined UFC and greater MMA for the better part of a decade.

My favorite bit is when they try to find Justin Thacker. No one had been able to find him for decades, turns out...he was in the same place he was in 2001.

What an epic lineup. Has never been matched since. The last several winners have been duds

True. You had Sanchez, Griffin, Bonnar, Florian, Koscheck, Leben...even the middle of the road guys had pretty solid careers and decent records. A lot of those guys are in pretty prominent positions within the UFC and other organizations. And that gym in Thailand looks bad arse.

Went back and rewatched on Disney+ ESPN the other day. Felt legit bad for Thacker and then that other guy ended up dying as well.

Leben was a tool but a lot of fun to watch

Leben was bat shite insane, but if he was on the card, you knew it was going to be a good fight. Man was game bred before Masvidal jerked his gherkin.

Some of those first few seasons were stacked. My fav season is lightweight with Diaz, Corey hill, Matt wiman, Lauzen, grey Maynard etc

Facts. Watching this I didn't realize how many fights I had forgotten. Florian and Clay Guida was a bloody fricking mess of a fight, but Guida always brought it.

Insane Leben was able to finish that run test in the first couple episodes, the only one

Gotta love how Griffin and Bonnar (arguably the most impactful of the cast outside of Sanchez) are in the way back like a bunch of extras they just needed for the shot.

that show in 2005 put the UFC on the map and is the reason they are where they're at today ...

the Fertitta brothers were north of $40 million in debt on the UFC at the time and this was their final shot at making it work... they offered to pay for all production cost just to get the show on the air for Spike TV (name of the network at the time). needless to say it was a home run and the rest is history,

Sam Hoger went to LSU and I was pretty good friends with him. He started a BJJ club at LSU, which I did with him for a little while, but the Rec Center was never very comfortable with us doing that on the premises. I lost touch with him and never got to ask him about the theft accusation.

I'd forgotten but there was a time when dudes that became fans because of that season were derogatorily called TUF noobs on the internet.

Kenny with his "hellbows" and Guida liked the double hammer fists from mount like a fricking cave man.

Those late 2000's / early 2010's were the goat decade for the UFC and MMA in general. You went from great personalities and fighters in the UFC combined with the mystique of what was going on in Pride straight into UFC buying Pride and getting fights we never thought possible. Guys like Krocop, Jackson, the Nogs, Wandy Silva, etc barnstorming the UFC at the same time we were coming out of the Matt Hughs / BJ Penn / GSP / ASilva era.

I happen to had a chance to play poker with him once in Houston, the other in Vegas. He actually remembered me when I sat down at the tournament table. Very cool laid back guy, definitely not the bad guy that show portrayed him.

He was definitely an interesting dude. Laid back but also high energy at the same time. He spent a lot of time (maybe even grew up) in Alaska so he fought as the Alaskan Assasin. Saw him dispatch some stocky guy at the Main Event in Kenner. Not sure if his fights are Main Event were counted in any way. There’d be some actual listed fights like what he fought in, and then they’d open up the ring to amateurs who could just jump in for fun. Doubt the place is still there.
