So, to be totally clear, you want anyone that throws a punch or gets in a tussle (in football, basketball, baseball, etc) to be prosecuted?

How can anyone take you serious?

Your reading teachers failed you.

So then what imaginary line has to be crossed in order for an offense to be prosecutable?

Then again I'm talking to a guy that equates bare-fisted fights on skates with what happened last night.
Nothing's going to happen to him in that regard. The league will make sure of that. Doesn't mean it shouldn't.

there actually is caselaw about this. the typical line is based in relation to the game itself. i think the last major case was Marty McSorley
clearly last night's behavior could be criminal, but it's very likely the Steelers/Rudolph don't want to pursue them
if a victim of a simple battery doesn't want to pursue charges, it's pretty much never going to become anything

From the NFL?
Why was he not immediately fired and charged?

What he did was pretty shitty, but the soapboxing on this has become unbearable.

And do you think that it could be argued, if a prosecutor were so inclined, that many punches/fights are outside of "the game itself"?
I feel like this is a Pandoras box that we really should not open

Not a race thing. If Garrett did this to Deshaun Watson or Brissett, people would be more upset
What it really shows is how people don’t give a shite unless the player is good. Rudolph? Most people dont care. If this happened to Brady or Brees? Garrett would never see another snap of NFL football

Understand what youre saying but its in hindsight. When does intent come into play? With all the rage about concussions and long term effects of head injuries, isnt this essentially spitting in the face of those on that soapbox? What if Rudolph were seriously injured? What punishment would you guys be calling for then? Im guessing a lot of the dissenters in this thread would sing a different tune. Intent(real or percieved) matters, in football and law.
As far as punishment, huge fine and long suspension. Whats the length of games for something like Josh Gordons substance abuse history? Id rather my football players be fricked up or juicing before bashing each other with helmets on helmetless heads

i'm not
i said suspend him for the rest of the year
for a first offense that's an insane suspension
Posted on 11/15/19 at 8:42 pm to SlowFlowPro
"The hit wasn't that hard." is doing exactly that. Especially when you leave out the context of why it wasn't. Had DeCastro not been there we would be having a completely different conversation, you and I both know it.
