Sherman Williams
From wikipedia:
In 2000 he was sentenced to seven years in prison for three counts of conspiracy to distribute marijuana and a separate plea for passing counterfeit currency. Saying that his time as a professional football player toughed him for prison, Williams said in a prison interview, "You know, I would think that things that would kill the average man wouldn't even make me flinch."

Surprised no one posted this bust yet...
Ryan Leaf:
Ryan Leaf:
quote:
Leaf joined Don Carthel's West Texas A&M staff as a quarterback's coach in 2006, and also became the school's golf coach in 2007. Said Leaf: "I feel very honored to be a part of Coach Carthel's staff and a part of an up-and-coming successful program. [...] About a year after I retired from playing, I decided that I wanted to get back to college, where I had the greatest time of my life, and to get involved with college football."[40] Leaf also admitted that he was unprepared for the NFL when he was drafted back in 1998.[40]
In April 2008, ESPN described Leaf as having made peace with his infamous NFL past: "When playing football became a job, it lost its luster for me. I kind of got out of the spotlight and life's never been this good."[41]

Byron Hanspard:
quote:
Hanspard announced shortly after the end of the 1996 season that he would give up his last year of eligibility and enter the 1997 NFL Draft. An ordained Pentecostal minister, he said that he felt the NFL gave him a better opportunity to expand his ministry.[2] However, he later became the source of controversy after it emerged that he had all but abandoned his studies during what turned out to be his last year in school, posting a perfect 0.00 grade point average for the 1996 fall semester. In part because of this, Texas Tech withdrew from bowl consideration in 1997.[3]

Siran Stacy
From wikipedia (very tragic):
In 1993, he tried out for the Cleveland Browns, but did not get a chance to join the team because he was arrested for theft at a K-Mart, which was pleaded down to disorderly conduct. His off-the-field troubles kept him off the field. His previous arrests include one in Geneva, Alabama, in 2004 for domestic abuse and restraining order violations, and an arrest in Opp, Alabama, in 1998 for domestic violence and criminal assault. In 2004, he was arrested in Louisiana for felony theft. He was also in an automobile accident in September 2006 which resulted in the death of two elderly people.
On November 19, 2007, Stacy was involved in an auto accident in which 6 people were killed. Bronson Stacy, 10, and Ellie Stacy, 2, and their mother, Ellen Stacy, were killed in the wreck. Also, two of his children by another woman, Laquisa Stacy, 18, and Sydney Stacy, 8, were killed. The sixth fatality was the driver of the other car, who was driving on the wrong side of the road and hit Stacy's van on the passenger side[1].
Stacy and one daughter, Shelly, 3, survived the wreck.
Siran Stacy also has 5 surviving children with his ex-wife ranging in age from 17 to 5.

Akili Smith
quote:
In 2007, Akili Smith signed a two-year contract with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League, where he was expected to compete for the starting quarterback job with another former NFL player, Henry Burris. After a fairly underwhelming debut in an exhibition against the Edmonton Eskimos, Smith played extremely well in the final exhibition against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Though listed going into the game as the third-string quarterback, Smith completed three touchdown passes in only a half of play, including one to former NFL player Marc Boerigter.
After an unimpressive showing against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on October 8, 2007, going 4 for 12, for 37 yards, along with the impending return of a healthy Henry Burris, the Calgary Stampeders released Akili Smith on October 10, 2007.

Ken Simonton
quote:
Simonton was undrafted in the 2002 NFL Draft, mainly due to questions of his size and durability and how that would translate into an NFL running back. He signed a free agent contract with the San Francisco 49ers on April 26, 2002 but was released shortly there after.[1]
Simonton next signed with the Buffalo Bills January 23, 2003. The Bills allocated him to the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe on March 1, 2003. As a player for the Scottish Claymores, Simonton set a team record for rushing touchdowns in a season with 8. He was selected as the NFL Europe Offensive MVP after having a league-high 841 rushing yards as well as 39 receptions, which was 4th in league.[1]
Feeling good from his success in NFL Europe and hoping for an increased role in the NFL, Simonton returned to Buffalo September 2, 2003. He hung on with the team for the season, getting minimal playing time. He was released September 9, 2004
Simonton was again signed by the San Francisco 49ers in November of 2004 by former college coach Dennis Erickson. After signing with the Detroit Lions in early 2005, he chose to retire from the NFL on April 5, 2005.
Simonton signed with the Calgary Stampeders on May 5, 2007.

I love these threads. I'm really interested in the non-SEC guys b/c they are harder to keep up with.
James Brown is one I really wonder about...balls out qb at Texas, huge upset win over the Huskers in the 96' title game...
...the Northwestern RBs also intrigue me. That was the decade I had as a child where I wasn't old enough to have a job and did nothing but watch college football, haha!
...also, was that a Rashan Salaam pic I saw earlier? How many people forgot he won the Heisman?
FSU QB Thad Busby...sometime around Danny K.
Zona' QB Ortege Jenkins, when the team went 12-1...

I thought about Brown last night actually. I'm like you. The 90' was my decade as an irresponsible child with nothing better to do.
Can't find much on Brown other than him trying out for a CFL team, playing a few seasons in the AFL, and then signing with Frankfurt in NFL Europe. Never played a down in the NFL.

I used to be a Texas fan at that time...for family reasons. Becoming an LSU student quickly wiped that away from the top.
But they had some guys like Brown who just kinda...went the wayside I guess. Hodges Mitchell at RB is another. I followed the Big 12 closely at the time. I'm glad someone posted Jamar Toombs. What about Sir Parker...has he done anything since the game winning TD against K-State?

Reggie Robinson (one of my all time favorite Tigers). I thought he was a better basketball player than football player. I remember him and Stromile Swift just dominating teams while they were at Fair Park.
