His offense blows

12mill buyout this year bro

I'm tired of the fricking offense but I'm more fed up with shitty qb play and god awful defense

He got them to the Orange Bowl. Can they do better? It's like Ferentz at Iowa -- not exactly programs that have all the components needed for success.

Funny tech fans were defending him a few years ago on this board

If/when he leaves GT, that program will really suffer for a few years, because you can pretty much guarantee his replacement will get rid of the triple option, so there will most certainly be personnel issues with any transition.
It's definitely not going to be a job that coaches out there will be fighting over.

It's nothing like Iowa. Ga Tech is surrounded by all kinds of talent in a city you can easily convince 18 year olds to live in, especially black ones.

Seriously? Probably never. The job is his until he wants to retire.

I just don't understand how with that offense you're not plugging in multiple top 100 RBs every year. That offense is shite without elite RBs

how his QB ever got a scholarship is beyond me. He throws like a female.

He got them to the Orange Bowl with Gailey's recruits and an offense that is a novelty in modern day college football. His teams have steadily gone downhill once Gailey's recruits were gone and the ACC started to adjust to his offense. Also, Kirk Ferentz at Iowa is not equal to Paul Johnson at GA Tech. Iowa's in the middle of nowhere. Georgia Tech is located in Georgia. They might not be the most popular team in Georgia but there's plenty of talent to go around in that state. There's no reason why they can't cobble together decent recruiting classes every year. Gailey was able to recruit players like Calvin Johnson, Demaryius Thomas, and Michael Johnson to Georgia Tech. It's not a place where you can't get decent players.

With Chan Gailey's recruits. Their ACC title was vacated too.

Agree they can do better their hoop team sucks year in year out yet they've gone to a final four in te last decade and convinced a top 3 recruit in Derrick favors to go.....guys like megatron and Steven hill were studs it's the triple option it blows hence why nobody respectable runs it anymore

Coming from Navy and Ga Southern he probably has no idea how to recruit high level talent.

He won it from Dr Pepper at Halftime

So why hasn't GT been better than mediocre over the past four decades save for a fluke national title? Is there even enough institutional support for the program to sustain success? Can they get and keep a "great" coach? Are academic requirements a factor? Being located in a state with good HS talent is only one component of the overall equation.

everytime i see a option team i always wonder why they dont throw the ball after a pitch just once. would be unstopable.

I'm not saying they should dominate the ACC but they should absolutely be top 25-35 every year. They've got one top 25 finish since O'Leary left.
If UNC could grease them through the system for years GT should be able to.
It's a really important one.

But it doesn't matter if the institution doesn't emphasize and support the football program to begin with.
