what do you call a football(American)? if you wanted to call "soccer" by its real name, you would call it association football.
and don't bring Oboma into this shite
I call them both football; but the context in which I use them is easy to figure out. It really isn't that hard to tell when someone is talking about American football or world football. I mean are we seriously having this conversation, like it makes me un-American? For God's sake it's not like i'm running around with a burning American flag. I'm not chanting for the downfall of America; I just enjoy a sport and I am a purist so I try to be as "by the book" about it as possible. If you don't like that I call itfootball..then I guess that is your problem. But I assure you I am as American as they come.

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world no doubt.
At what point does it surpass the NBA, MLB, or NFL in the States in popularity?

Oh but I would HATE for you to get confused by it.

never. Frankly...I don't want it to. I want the USA to have a successful national team but if people that lambast it, like the people in this thread, were to like it then it would become just like the tiger rant.
ETA: The handegg picture is kinda hilarious.

i suspect it will. once the inner city kids grasp a concept of the rules and learn they can make a living doing it, soccer will blow up again.

in football news: David Beckham wants a move to Milan and barcelona is the best team on the planet at the moment.
In football news: Brett Favre has retired(again) and the Steelers are the world champions
Personally I am confused as to which is which.

Well it could, but there will always be the draw of the NFL,NBA, et al. I suspect it will grow, without a doubt; but I don't think it will ever be as BIG as those. Of course I could be suprised because there is a growing youth movement into youth football at the moment so if they stick with it then maybe we could see more Altidore's and Adu's.

Look, I'm not trying to pretend that I am cool because I call it "football" or because I know more about it than many others; because I realize in America people tend to be like "oh I don't care about that shite". So it's not like I'm trying to be different or act like I'm not American; it just happened one day when I was young and I watched a match and I saw how great it was, and to some it's boring, and I was hooked. no more, no less.
As i stated before, it's just a personal choice.
