scissoring a soccer ball isn't complicated either, it's eye foot coordination basically. where dunking is hand eye coordination. the thing that makes both of these things extraordinary is the athleticism it takes to control their bodies to accomplish it.
the point to be made in all this is that athleticism is at the root of skill.
So to say that bball players are exponentially better athletes than soccer players just isn't right.
Skills are made up of dozens of small athletic movements. Different sports involve different ones.
Good athletes are good athletes. Depending on what sport they play, their skill sets are different. So you may perceive Lebron to be a better athlete than Christiano Ronaldo, it may not be the case.
If Ronaldo had been bred to be a defensive back, we could be talking about how unbelievable he is.
When someone is a good athlete, he's able to mold into whatever people teach him. Like the skills that SFP was talking about.
There isn't a doubt in my mind that I could have been a professional basketball, football, soccer...whatever player, had I played those sports. No matter which sport I chose, my body would have adapted to it.
The same is true for the guys you're talking about. Ten years ago you could have made Henry an incredible wide receiver, just like you could've made Chris Paul an amazing soccer player.

CP3 could be a decent striker, but probably a better winger
outside player with the ability to come in
outside player with the ability to come in

you never know what he could be...point being that if he had kicked around a football instead of dribbling a bball at age 10...he's a good enough athlete to probably do anything

I base what I say on his body type, his mentality within a game, and the characteristics of the position I suggest
CP has a high number of assist regardless of position type in basketball, maybe his position comes with more assist, but even with that, he still has more than anybody else, which states he has the right mentality to be in a high assist position, doesn't mind spreading the ball around around, with that particular attribute he is suited for striker and midfield
his body type is good for all those positions also, but he has good agility and the ability to go inside and bust through defenses, hence winger
why not striker or center mid, because he'll do more damage with deliveries from the outside and has the ability to come inside
this is all hypothetical of course and is 100% my very own opinion and is only out to convey why I came up with winger
of course we'll never know for sure, and I'd like to believe my assessment is well within reason, and you're right about if he just switched balls, may sound stupid to some, but I stand by it

I've gotten to know enough top athletes to know that it's not stupid at least

seriously? since you are so confident, maybe you should test your assertion.
"adapt" your body to play professional basketball for these next five years and then when you are 30ish try out for a pro league, any pro league.
ill be anxiously awaiting the results.

so I should leave the great job I have to go attempt to test a theory placed on a message board? Does that sound a little retarded to you? It does to me.
Also, I originally said that if I had grown up playing any of those sports, I'd be able to play professionally. I didn't say now.
Posted on 2/13/09 at 1:39 am to LfcSU3520
You really think you could play any sport professionally? I know not now, but I'm under the impression that people are designed for certain sports.

Here is the point to end this argument:
Kobe Bryant was not an all-world soccer player.
You say basketball has better athletes than soccer, but the people stating different sports require different athletic abilities are correct. Kobe Bryant was just as athletic in soccer as he was in basketball, but his athletic skill sets suited him to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time, whereas he wasn't one of the best soccer players when he played.

Kobe picked up a lot of soccer skills growing up in Italy I believe. He loves the game and Barcelona is his favorite squad. If you don't develop your technical abilities between 9 - 12 in soccer than you will struggle to play at a high level. Same with every other sport I'm sure. You have to build good habits and use your teens for repetition.

no canada beats us
they really enjoy it, hence their packed stand for Toronto FC...even when they did beyond horrible their first year
It may not be their main sport, but they still have a much greater appreciation for it than americans

quote:whoa, watch the personal attacks you motherfricker, it happened last time, why would it not happen again? I am not saying that hardcore soccer fans will stop likong the sports, but the casual fan who picked up an interest for the world cup likely won't continue to follow US soccer if they play as poorly as they did in 06. if you don't think that happened after the 06 WC, you NEED TO CHECK AGAIN
Yeah, a few more World Cup losses and us soccer fans will start following Nascar, playing more fantasy football, and sucking more dick like the rest of you

of all the people I talked to about soccer, their main excuse for not getting into it was that they didn't understand the rules, and I tell them that compared to the NFL, soccer's rule book is 1/100000th the size

sorry, wasn't intended to be a personal attack. I just like being sarcastic. Plus I respect you because you seem to have a good taste in music, and I'm pretentious enough to make that my measure of a man.
