This has obviously been being investigated for several years, with a case being built, interviews being conducted, etc.

I would like to know when the board of trustees became aware of it.

Everyone has been talking about time frames, "this week" "the last few days", which is the time frame as those of us on the outside see it. But it seems that PSU should have been prepared when this went down. They all act like they read about it in the newspaper on Sunday like I did and have been in crisis mode.

Ive been asking that all along myself. How long have they been a part of the Penn St BOT? They had to know something in my opinion. As I said in another thread. This is only the tip of the iceberg.

Supposedly just recently, but who knows.

The rumors have been going on in the city for at least a year and probably much longer. I'm not sure how long the investigation has gone on though.

This is a good question. As far as I'm aware, there aren't any direct links to the BoT. The only established Penn State employees linked to the 2002 incident - via the grand jury report - are Paterno, McQueary, Curley, Schultz, and Spanier.

Hopefully, this thread can clarify whether there is established evidence tying the BoT to knowledge of Sandusky's depravities.

I assume they caught wind of the situation previously, but didn't know the full extent until the grand jury report came out.

A lot of people knew behind the scenes - something like that doesn't happen and in a close knit community like that I'm sure people talked everytime they saw Sandusky, a lot more people knew than will ever admit

I think the OP point wasn't to say whether or not the BOTs new about Sandusky back in 2002 and were involved in the cover up, buy instead how long have they known about the current investigation. They act like they just found out and were completely unprepared. However the investigation has been going on for three years I believe, and the grand jury testimonies were in January of this year. So they have known for a good while.

I think people need to understand that BOTs are made up of professionals that live across the country and meet at regular intervals throughout the year to make very high level decisions about the broad direction of a school. They hire and empower administrators to handle the day to day and are not likely fully informed as to these types of things. Here, the problem seems that the administration tasked with the responsibility failed. I doubt the BOT as a group knew much about it, but I suspect there are possibly a few that might have.

The Board is largely reliant on the school President giving them information to stay informed.

Probably. But I grew up in a town similar to State College. For every rumor that turned out to be true, there were about five rumors that were never substantiated and/or utterly ridiculous. I'd imagine that even people who had heard rumors about Sandusky for years are completely shocked by all of this.

Yes. I'm not saying they were involved in the cover up, because I don't believe they were. These are wide-spread professionals, mostly not living in State College. My point is from a crisis management standpoint. If they have known this investigation was going on and any of the details, they should have had all this mapped out.
