No one had a better regular season than ND whether you like it or not.

In a playoff do you honestly think they make it there? Please.

But you are right. Based on their season and the BCS criteria, they belonged. Based on reality, they did not.

The Playoff should prevent this.

They wouldve stood a chance. Who was number 4 last year? They beat stanford who was damn good.

Depends on matchup. They were this year's Auburn. Their luck had to run out eventually.

Isn't it pretty much going to be the same deal but essentially a +1 system?

Bleh, the BCS was primed to put tOSU in the title game this year.

The BCS was fine, but putting it on a pedestal seems like a reach.

2 of the greatest college games ever, OSU-Miami and USC-Texas, would not have happened without it

Why not? Would a four team playoff have presented the possibility?

I think some people forget the BCS recently put Notre Dame in the title game. In a playoff that would never have happened. I don't know who but someone could have given Bama a better game.

herein lies my problem though. I hate ND, and everyone knew Bama was going to demolish them, but how could you keep them out? It should be who the "best" team is, it should be the "most deserving" IMO

I can't imagine an undefeated ND team not being selected to a 4 team playoff, no matter how shitty they look winning.

More than a few...

2001 Miami vs. Nebraska
2004 USC vs. Oklahoma
2006 Florida vs. Ohio State
2007 LSU vs. Ohio State
2009 Alabama vs. Texas
2011 Alabama vs. LSU
2013 Alabama vs. Notre Dame

Not how it works anywhere in life. The team that earns the right should be the one that took care of business. If a team loses and misses out then clearly they weren't the best.

They wouldn't have been left out of the playoff...they just likely wouldn't have won the playoff game.

And don't think I'm saying based on their season and the criteria to get in they didn't deserve it. They did. But that still doesn't mean they're the 2nd best team. In my opinion that year the BCS did not provide a game between the nation's two best teams...or even a competitive game.

The Playoff imo should be 8 or 16 teams but even at 4 it'll make teams coming from weak conferences earn their shot.

They need to copy FCS, but with a better committee. They royally fricked up the playoff selection this year. The best FCS conference only got 2 teams in (one being the 3 time champion NDSU). NDSU got more competition from Northern Iowa, Illinois State, and the MVFC than they did in the playoffs.

That would be like the SEC only getting 1 team in the 4 team playoff if both division champs were undefeated going into Atlanta.

I agree with this. Its the end of an era and I have many fond memories - not just of LSU (but mostly).

Agreed, but someone said earlier today (maybe Herbstreit) that the selection committee is likely to favor conference champions in their decision. Seems fair, but what if a one loss SEC team, like Bama in 2011, doesn't win their league and gets passed over for a 2 loss Big Ten champ? Who is the "best" and who is "more deserving"?

If the Pac 12 and ACC had one loss champions and the Big 10 an undefeated champ a 1 loss SEC title game loser should be left out.

I still dont see why you're so sure that ND wouldn't make the title. They would've played Oregon who lost to Stanford who ND beat. I dont like using the transitive property but they could've made it. They deserved to be in the title that year, they played a decent schedule and didn't slip up like others.

They clearly were not the 2nd best team in the country.

And you know this doesn't work in sports.

You'll learn to love the playoffs. People hated the BCS because it was "change."
