I played today and played horrible!
thats the worst ive played by hitting the ball so solid ever. Every strike was so solid and pure but it was just in bad spots. I did hit a ball into the water then hit my next shot to less than an inch for par though. I spun it back about ten feet and it was dead in the middle of the hole like .75 inches off the left lip.
But like I hit my 115 yard shot into the green on a par 5 and hit hole high and zipped back all the way down the hill for like a 40 footer. made bogey. Just bad stuff like that all day

Shot 32 in the 9 hole individual scramble. It was an interesting format. It was fun to get a bunch of birdie opportunities, but it took a little longer than I thought it would.
As for what threeputt said, I've heard of people practicing in the way he mentioned. In Haney's book about Tiger, that's the way Tiger had to play Hank. There's a goons excerpt in there about Tiger being on a 200+ yard par 3 and stuffing his first ball to 3 feet. Haney ribbed him by saying he wasted a good one because he's got to hit again. Tiger then hit the 2nd one inside of the first one.

I must have missed that and dont know what you are talking about but it could be what I'm thinking. Someone once told me you know you are a good golfer when you play two balls from every spot and take the worse one every time and can still break 80. I was like damn thats pretty legit actually
Ive done it when playing by myself once or twice and its hard. But Id only play like 9 or so and rarely ever play by myself
