Can you feel your way through the problem? Think you can just fix it?
Are you swinging hard?

Sort of. I can straighten it out for a while, but then I'll have a miss right again.

Sometimes at the last second i'll try to muscle up but i'm getting better at controlling this

and when I straighten it out I really can't even tell you exactly what I do different either
the longer the iron, the worse it is

You're late on it and the face is opening. When you throttle back, it's money.
Same issue I have.

So essentially just a tempo issue?
Basically. But then sometimes when I consciously slow down I swing to damn slow and hit some bullshite fat shot. It's not terrible but if I straightened it out I think i'd be consistently in the 80s.

Come up with a rhythm cadence that matches your swing. Say it a few times while you hit on the range and then try to bring it to the course. Lee Westwood's is just 1,2,3 and as he says three he has the club moving back at the ball.

I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks.

Could try "Tour Tempo"...
Tour Tempo
It's kinda nerdy, but basically most golfers fall into three different tempos... They found that the backswing in most good players is 3x as long time wise as the downswing... Like 27/9, 24/8, 21/7. They have some tempo tones you can download onto your phone and listen to while you hit balls on the range.
I tried it a few years ago, and it seemed to help. Haven't messed with it in a while, but this reminded me to try it again. Helps with getting technical/mechanical swing thoughts out of your head and just focus on tempo.

I will look into that too. I think I had read something a while back about that 3:1 ratio

Had the same issues you do. Got help by getting on a trackman and changing my takeaway. I thought I was taking the club straight back. Turns out I was bringing it way inside. Fixed it by taking it back (in what feels like) outside the target line (but it's not...it's finally straight back) and concentrating on the back of the left hand facing the target at impact.
It takes plenty of swings to groove that feeling and I still don't have it consistently but my miss with the long irons tends to be left now. When I NEED to hit a fairway now, my 2 iron is the go-to club.

Nice little island green Par 3 out here. It plays anywhere from 115-145: huge tee box and big green.
Playing 135 the other day and I put a 9I to 20' pin high and parred it.

Getting that core work in and deciding where I want to mis-hit and chase some golfballs at today. LSU Course is closed, where should I go in BR?

Ohhh. I'd probably embarrass myself playing a round of golf with you at this point big dawg.

Try swinging a weighted club. Just practice the bottom part of the swing and let the weighted club "break" your wrists. It'll help with the rest of the swing. Your fight is one most of us have had.
Also make sure that ball is not to far back in your stance
