2nd part of the Case Study...

Do you think you are doing a good service to your kid (in a golf sense) by teaching them, or are you just trying to be a good parent?

the reason: I see so many parents who come out to the course with their kids and try to "teach" them about golf. I have overheard many conversations where the parent is pushing the kid and not teaching them correct fundamentals.

IMO, until a kid is about 12 it should be about the respect and honor of the game. Not about if their swing plane is proper.

What's the best value course in gulf shores?

The guys I'm playing with aren't that great so I don't want to break the bank and everything seems to be more expensive than previous years.

If I choose Craft farms, which course is more fun? Cotton or Cypress

Me and a guy at work talk about this all the time. We will see dads come with their sons and make them hit on the range for two hours and the kid look miserable when he gets there and leaves. Some parents try to make their kids the next tiger and that ain't happening. When they are young just take them out there and hit the ball on the range take them to play and don't keep score and as they get older see if they like it and get them lessons if they are interested. As a parents give them the basic fundamentals without going overboard or becoming a drill sergeant.

I talked about a guy I saw in Destin earlier this year who was forcing his tween daughter to chip one afternoon.

He was getting mad at her, and you could see his frustration with what she was doing wrong, and hear it.

I thought, that kid's gonna hate golf in a few years. She'll never play once she's out of the house.

My folks let me pic which sports I played. They got me shitty clubs to start to see if I'd stick with it. Good parents let their kids figure out what they want to do, and then support that. If they aren't interested in golf because you (we) are playing, dragging them out there probably isn't going to help.

They GOTTA WANT IT!!

Cotton is little harder IMO, but its the nicer course. Wish they would have left the Woodlands. That course was my favorite

Craft is now 10 bucks cheaper than peninsula and Kiva

Personally, I'd rather play those for the slight up charge.

agreeed. I seee a POS father all the time on our range with two little girls under 8 years old and he is out there yelling at them on every shot that isnt purely perfect. their mom comes too and and just stares at them like a prison guard. They are not enjoying it. I never hear them encouraging them at all or making them feel good. I never see the little girls laughing or smiling or having the slights bit of fun. Those parents are POS in my opinion

Positive behavior support for kids at that age works better than anything. They'd want to make their parents happy, and it doesn't matter what they are doing. It could be basket weaving. Getting upset just frustrates the child more. Plus, most of the parents don't know what the hell they're talking about anyway. So, it's not like they're getting constructive criticism anyway.

Seeing a parent get mad at a kid for hitting a bad golf shot is a joke.

You would think that most parents would see this and agree!

I guess I'll have to call the GM after the CF that ensued at the first tee yesterday.

welp, these people are not from our country originally and may have a different set of POS social and familial norms. I still don't like it.

those people should be shot

getting upset or sad about it because you know the kid feels making an error is different. but getting mad or pissed is unreal to me

What time was that?

I teed off around 1 and it was sort of a cluster as well

The starter sits in the shade not even near the tee, and didnt really even ask what my tee time was

We have the Kelly Gibson tournament at Timberlane and that's the worse you feel sorry for the kids. The parents put some much pressure on these kids that if they make a mistake they don't wanna even look over at their parents. Then you have parents arguing with the scoring officials that their kid shot a better score than what was written on the scorecard. It's crazy how far these parents will go.
