So I get home this evening and find a post card from a course offering me a 2 year membership for $89 a year. Sounds mighty strange but I'm calling first thing in morning to check it out.

Umm. Just depends. I mean that's how almost every industry is these days. I would definitely become very involved in the UGA turf club. Attend Georgia Turgrass Association meetings, go to the Golf Industry Show, etc. That will ensure you will meet a lot of people. Turf is a pretty tight knit industry. Everyone knows everyone, or knows of everyone.

Professors will help you meet people. Superintendents will come talk to your classes and meetings. You will meet a lot of guys who are willing to help you.

Internships will create a lot of connections. You'll work closely with the superintendents at your internships. All the undergrads have a pretty personal relationship with their bosses from internships. They feel comfortable calling them and asking for help on projects.

One more question. What have your typical studies been?

I did it. $348 for two years greens fees. 3 day advance tee times. Just pay for cart and range.

As far as classes go?

It's been different for me since I'm in graduate school. I'm only required to take 24 hours of actual classes for graduation. And 8 hours of those were stats classes.

So far I've taken:
Soil Fertility - broke down how soil interacted with nutrients and fertilizers; nitrogen cycle, CEC, pH, etc.

Turfgrass Diseases - studied all the turfgrass diseases and fungicides

Adv. Turfgrass - pretty general overview of turfgrass management; some sports turf, golf turf, lawn, etc.

Golf Course Ops - my favorite class so far; lots of speakers and field trips; no tests - we are given case studies and present them to the class; its a great way to learn

Going to call in am. Cypress Lakes and Grand Ridge are closer but around $150 a month (cart included). With a kid heading off to college in the fall the Riverlands deal is a better fit.

It's not too crowded. Good greens. I just missed a hole in one the other day.

At 89 a year, I think its a good deal anytime.

I guess they're going with the idea of "a deal so good, they can't say no."

On another note, I'm watching "The Tiger Woods Story" on Netflix.

High comedy. And it's not supposed to be comedic.

I might have to inquire about that or is it something only for residents of the neighborhood? Not a bad drive for me from Gonzales for that deal. How much do they charge for cart fee?

It's probably comparable to The Oaks. But with more water and longer. Blue tees 6600 yards.

The deal can be found on their web page or facebook. Two membership, $89 per year for Tues-Fri. $75 per year for six day. Plus admin fee it's $348 for 2 years. Carts $20. It's a good deal if you play it much. I think after 6 rounds per year you're into positive. They have a few left.
