Where did you go OB twice at Atchafalaya?

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with the "goofy" comments on the course. Other than 6 and 16, I rather like the layout. The fairways are pretty generous and the greens are big. I played 18 with the same ball the other day. It's a position course off the tee. Put your ball in the right spot in the fairway, and it's a course you can score on.

I didn't make that comment, but the two holes you mentioned are not really all that great.

The moguls are absolutely retarded. Rolling mounds would be fine, but don't stick 400 moguls on a course like that.

The faces of the moguls are too steep in some spots. Last time I played I hit it about 15 feet right on my second shot on 6 and had a damn near vertical lie from 108. Hit an 8 iron about as pure as I could while doing a split, got a good kick off a satellite, and came up 20 yards short

Oh, no, I hate 6 and 16. It's a links style course. What's wrong with links style moguls on a links style course? For the most part, they just frame the holes and don't come into play that much unless you're spraying it. I'll take moguls over trees or OB or native areas where you can't find your ball. At least you've got a fighting chance with moguls.

I'm not sure we're talking about the same course. Atchafalaya isn't what I'd call links.

quote:

A links is the oldest style of golf course, first developed in Scotland. The word "links" comes via the Scots language from the Old English word hlinc : "rising ground, ridge" and refers to an area of coastal sand dunes and sometimes to open parkland

That course is in a swamp.

Amateurs shouldn't be playing that course from the tips. The green is a "Biarritz" style green witch is one of the classic golf architecture templates.

I think Atchafalaya is a little unusual in that the first 6 holes are some of the toughest on the course. 2,3,4, and 6 are stout. If you can get through there without a big number, you can have a great round.

I played there a couple of weeks ago, and it was just fun. La Tour just beats you up, even if you play well. I enjoyed myself at Atchaflaya more, even if the conditioning isn't quite as good as La Tour.

Haters! All of you!

That being said I should have played the bear tees and just played the par 3's from the tips

This guy checks out.

FWIW, I don't really care for Atchfalaya but the conditioning has always been good when I played. The only thing is the bottoms of the huge moguls are always wet because they have to water the shite out of them to keep grass on them

I said links style. There aren't any true links courses in the southeastern US if you want to get technical. Atchafalaya isn't a "parkland" style course ala Augusta national. It's a links STYLE.

Ok, I'm not arguing semantics. Just saying the moguls suck.

Well, I only hit it 340, so I'm probably a little straighter than you. I don't have to play from the moguls very often.

You true bombers can be a little wild.

The closest thing to links I can think of is the LSU course.

If they had Atchafalaya's moguls, it would make the course play more like a traditional links course.
